Today was Teacher Appreciation Day. They were giving out canvas bag with a nice assortment of supplies. So here I am at the Staples in Jamaica, Queens and they gave me a hard time because I didn't have a school ID. I teach in a private psychiatric day treatment center. We don't have IDs or UFT cards. All I had was my Staples Teacher Rewards Card. You can only GET one of those with an ID, which, at the time that I got it, was a pay stub. That was how I got notification of the event in the mail in the first place. I brought that notification with me
The girl wouldn't give me a bag and told me to talk to her boss. I told her she could call her boss over to where SHE was because she was handing out bags to everyone else and I would be damned if I was FIRST to get there to have her give my bag to someone else. I said 'I have been teaching for 10 damn years. Just because I am not in a union doesn't mean I am not a teacher.' So she looked at me with disgust and gave me the bag.
I was so miffed that I went to 2 other Staples and said 'I came to get appreciated.' One guy, in Manhasset, offered to give me a hug. I almost took him up on it. He was adorable.

That s ucks. I went to the the staples in Farmingdale today and they gave me one of the left overs. Then I went to a few more on the way home I really like the smelly markers.

I got a canvas bag with some stickers, pencils, coupons, a reinforement sealer thingy, a smelly marker and a pad. I forget anything else that may have been in it.

BTW- Did they mention when they are going to have Corporate America Marketing Managers Appreciation Day? It must be in October....

Get a Staples Teachers Rewards card and they will automatically remind you in the mail. Every time you buy something that you COULD use in the classroom, they scan the key tag/card and you rack up points to get coupons every so often. I guess its like a CVS card. Costs nothing to get one!
