That's right- I failed my freakin 3 hour test I have to go see a diabete nutritionist tomorrow at Noon so she can explain all the You Can't Eat stuff to me which basically means 'Michele you will starve since everything you like you can't have' I am totally moody today and DONE. I am NOT happy camper.
So, I went to the diabete doctor. I have to monitor (aka prick my finger) 4X a day and follow a pretty strict diet plan. I call in my 'numbers' on Friday and Monday and then she will make a decision if I need insilin or not. Of course, she said it could change in the weeks to come but she will make an intial assessment on Monday. And then I go to see them every 3 weeks. No ice cream for 12 weeks, no cookies, no dessert at all I cannot wait to tell my child 'You can take out the garbage since I had to go thru sooo much to have you'

Re: I am a failure
Hang in there Michelle. You can do this! I can tell you are the kind of person that when you put your mind to something you really do it- and do it well. And there is sugar free ice cream when it gets really bad! I know my cousin had her DH driving all over LI looking for it when she just couldn't take it anymore. We are here for you.

Re: I am a failure
Jessica, that was so sweet of you. Unfortunately, the nutritionist told her she cannot have even the sugar free stuff. So, these 12 weeks will be difficult for Michele, but hopefully, as soon as the baby is born, the GD will go AWAY!

Re: I am a failure
The doctor told me NO sugar-free ice cream or cookies because they are still loaded with carbs and they will still elevate my levels
Can someone bring me Cold Stone ice-cream and a Krispy Kreme to the hosptial?

Re: I am a failure
Sorry to hear......but a rainbow is waiting at the end!
what did they say about splenda? its made from sugar...but no cals or carbs...
ez PB cookies...
1 cup PB 1 cup splenda 1 egg
bake at around 350 (not sure of exact time...so check often)
the silver lining could also be...that thank goodness you don't have to go trought all the holiday season without desserts!!!

Re: I am a failure
Erica - what kind of PB are you using in that recipe - all natural or sugar free? Regular PB has a lot of sugar added....I would LOVE to try this recipe, but I cannot have the sugar

Re: I am a failure
The doctor said to ask my midwife about splendar but it has been shown safe. But I know my midwife will say No since she is not really a candy/cookie type person and this is probably her normal diet and those artifical sweetners are not what most midwives say to use. BUT I might use it anyway. Thanks for ALL of the support I am sure after a few days my pity party will be over, but for now I am feeling this way.

Re: I am a failure
We were just talking about this yesterday...evidently splenda does not elevate your blood sugar levels so should be okay. As a result of the Atkins craze, there is a bunch of food on the market that is made with splenda and is very low carb. Have you seen some of those thigns?

Re: I am a failure
The diabete doctor told me to check with my midwife about Spenda use- but she said it has been shown very safe during pregnancy so I just went out and got myself the packs to use for my tea. I also got myself some little ****er candy that are about the size of a tic-tac but better than nothing. Plus I got myself one of those low-carb slenda choc. bars for an emergency I also found juice bars that are only 15 grams of carbs which I can have at night- and they are all nature. But the doctor told me NO sugar-free ice-cream or cookies. Maybe they need to see how my levels are before allowing that stuff? Not sure, but they told me not to use that at all. Thanks for all of the support.

Michele, I haven't been on in a couple of days, I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. Only a little while left until your 'sweet' little peanut is here, you'll get through it with or without the sweets!!

Michele I'm so sorry. Even though I'm not pregnant I feel your pain. You are a very strong person. Soon the baby will be here and when you look at the baby's healthy face you will know it was all worth it! Hang in there!
