I am cancelling my DJ....(Update)

Original post by Latrice

I booked my DJ - In the Mix last Monday. However, I feel as if we are spending way too much money for the service. The total came to 2148 and that did not include the coctail or cermony. Just the reception. The only add ons we added were the father/daughter montage and the fog and light effects when the BP enters the reception.

Am I overreacting or do you agree that this is too much money?

Anyone have any suggestions of recommendations for me.

I had a funny feeling that I would want to cancel, so when we signed the contract I had the manager insert that we had 10 days to cancel and get our deposit back..

UPDATE

Ok, so FH made a few calls today to FM entertainment and High Voltage. I have heard rave reviews about Vinny from High Voltage. But has anyone heard any reviews from FM Entertainment. They are also a vendor on this site. Their prices are reasonable and the manager seems very nice. Anyone heard of them?

what do you mean by the photo montage? Is the DJ setting up a screen and you're showing a movie? If so then your price sounds about right. But I do agree that the CH music sould be included.

Honestly I agree...that's NOT a bad price for the plasma screen set up and intelligent lighting...typical DJs usually slam you on those. Maybe if you talk with them first and express your desire to cancel, they'll throw in CH music at no charge....I bargained a little with my DJ and he was more than accommodating. I got the intelligent lighting, CH and Ceremony thrown in.

IMO that's a lot. I'm using Vinny from High Voltage and for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception it's almost 1/3 of your price.

wow i'm using in the mix and i found their prices to be very reasonable..maybe you should talk with them first before you cancel..you must have gone there for a reason..good luck with your choice though!!

That price does seem a bit high. We got Ceremony, CH, reception with light show give aways and photo montage for a lot less than that!

total rip - talk to them and see why, they may lower it.

Yea, definitely talk to them. Get some quotes from the other vendors and see what they can give you, bring the prices back and ask what the deal is. It sounds incredibly expensive.

When I first booked with them I booked the screen for the montages.. But then I became totally uncomfortable with A- The price and B- the total effect it would have on the hall and such.. So I called them right away and they reworked my package and We got the same discount, just without the extra added stuff.. It was like $1800 before we downgraded. They were totally ok with it. I loved their work, I just was uncomfortable with everything else.

That does seem high. High Voltage quoted me under $900 for ceremony, cocktail and reception. That did not include a montage, fog or a light show but those things don't seem worth $1248.

Good idea to add the 10 day cancellation clause.

I am sorry but I must interject, it drives me crazy when I read posts that are 'fudged'.

DJ packages vary, and when items are left off, some packages seems way overpriced.

Intelligent lighting is very expensive, as well as screens, digital imaging and montages, so when those things are taken into consideration, prices go up accordingly, thus making 2100 seem fair.

I think a lot of brides need to pick up the latest edition of the Weddingpages and turn to page 135, I think you will find it very enlightening.

I don't wish to offend anyone, and take this as my opinion, but when we post, let's post the truth ladies, this is the only way we can all help one another.

You had asked about FM. I haven't been able to get anyone on LIW who has used them to respond, but we met with them and liked them and have booked them. I thought their prices were beyond reasonable and they were very nice.

I def think that is too much money. I would try to find someone cheaper IF the DJ you have booked now, won't work with you.

Sounds really high. We are paying $1000 ( i think) for cocktail hr, reception, and minimal lights. Using Crystal Blue.

Since it was my post that was quoted, I was wondering what you meant by 'fudged'????? If you MUST know I'm paying $1865 for DJ/MC, intelligent lighting, Ceremony and CH....so considering that I am NOT getting a photomontage and a FOG machine, I don't think that the price she was given is wrong.

I am agreeing with you, I quoted what you said because I echo what you said and there is a big difference between a dj and a dj and an mc with intelligent lighting, a montage and digital imaging with a screen. There's a big difference between what it is and what people say to get other brides to agree with them to make them feel better about spending less...I totally agree with you.

Wow. I did take slight offense to the comment by curliegirl and for that reason I would like the opportunity to respond. My response is that I was not fudging ANY information. I have no reason to lie or mislead anyone nor do I need a group of people to agree with me to help me make a better decision about the amount of money I choose to spend for a DJ company. I have since done further research on my own and have found other companies offering the same package deals for less money. So I still feel that those prices were high for the service that we were requesting. The CH was not even included in that deal. But that is my opinion and I have a right to that. My whole purpose of the post was to get different opinions from other brides since we are all planning for what will be one of the most beautiful and memorable days of our lives. The purpose was fulfilled and I was greatful and appreciative for the responses.

way too much money!! try Get in Tune dj also, they are great. 631.737-0025 Ask for Glen. We are using them & have heard such positive things about them. We also saw them at a showcase. Very reasonable & they will work w/ you on the prices.
