How old was everyone when they had their first child? I am getting married in Oct and wanted to start trying in Sep but we want to buy a house and wait for my mom to retire so I want to wait 1 year and I will be 39 going on 40 in Jan. My doctor says it might take a little longer but he doesnt see why I cant wait, its my friends and family who are driving me nuts about the age.

Re: I am curious....
I was 35. My best friend was 38, almost 39 when she had her son last summer and I have another friend who is 42 and having her first in May. You are definitely not too old AT ALL.

Re: I am curious....
My mom had me at 22, then my sister at 39 (yes we are 17 years apart in age). She had a very happy and healthy pregnancy and she conceived very easily considering they WEREN'T trying LOL
I don't think 1 year will make that much of a difference for you

Re: I am curious....
Honestly, I think this varies by person. I hear of some women who got pregnant in their late 30's / early 40's easily, while others struggle. Statistically speaking, it's harder as we age, b/c we have a finite number of eggs.
Shamma posted a great article on this. It was from a dateline special, I think. If I can find it, I'll post the link.

Re: I am curious....
I was 31 when I conceived and will be 31 when I deliver in May. I never thought I'd have a problem conceiving, especially after my miom gave birth to 6 healthy children, all without a problem. But it took awhile and our next may as well.

I am 35 and expecting our first child. You aren't too old. Many people are having children later. We can't help that me and my husband didn't find each other when we were in our twenties.

Re: I am curious....
My gf is 43 (44 in July) and expecting her 1st in April.
I was 37 when I had Sean last July. Sometimes these things are beyond our control!

My mother was 45 when I was born (I was the baby of 7) so I am sure it is possible.

I want to thank all of you. You all have made me feel a lot better about our decision.
