I am freaking out

Original post by BoogieDownBride

My annual review at work was moved up from Friday to this afternoon, and I do not have a good feeling about it. I think there's a chance I could lose my job!

Do you like your job? If it's true that they aren't happy, do you want to convince them to keep you, or do you not really care?

Either way, just try to stay positive. Don't burn any bridges. Don't get defensive. If you do wind up looking for another job, you will still need them as a reference.

I don't necessarily agree with this. If she gets fired for performance screw them! She doesn't need to put them on her resume. If they are downsizing, that's a different story though.

I disagree...stay professional...you do not want gaps in your resume!! it can get your resume 'filed' instantly...

and remember former employers can get in a lot of trouble if they say anything negative about you if called for a reference (there is such a thin line) so most to keep out of legal trouble...will just say what dates that you worked there...and very basic info...

good luck!!!!

Re: I am freaking out

Just wanted to let you girls know that it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I am on 1 month probation. The things they’re asking are not that unreasonable, but I still feel like communicating with them is totally impossible. It was easier in most cases just to agree with them. Either way, I still have a job, which was all I was really worried about.

Thanks for all of your support! You girls are all fantastic!

I totally agree with Erica. Gaps in your resume look very bad to potential employers.

I see that everything worked out in the end. I am glad to hear that. One month probation is not that bad. Is it in writing???

I'm in education...but I think this is true of all professions...

the word gap wasn't used...but it was mentioend that she didn't have to put it on her resume...therefore that would leave a gap...

Boogie!!! so glad things worked out OK...

I'm glad it went ok!

The gaps they are referring to is if she worked from 97-99 and then worked at this job from 99-present, what did she do since 1999 if she doesn't put it on her resume?

I understand what a gap is
But personally I think if you lost your job due to poor performance it's better to fudge your resume (if you can) than to try to explain how or why to potential employers.

Yay, boogie!!!! 1 month is not bad at all.

Bet you're glad that's over - you should do something fun tonight to celebrate!

I am going to the GYN after work! What fun!

Maybe I’ll do something fun afterwards…

Sheesh...this has been a rough day for you!

Re: I am freaking out

Totally depends on how long she has been there. A few months is easily explained away, especially in this job market. A few years is a little more difficult
