I am full of questions today!

I am full of questions today!

FH and I are getting married next month, but we are taking our honeymoon in the summer because I am a teacher in a leave replacement position. I am filling out the passport application now, which I probably should have done already. I realized that I will be changing my last name, and hope that the process will be complete by the end of June when we go. Will this be a problem? Should I check with the post office? TIA!

The passport can take up to 6 months to get, so get it now and don't delay.

I think the name change might be a problem. My advice - get your passport ASAP using your current name. Don't change your name until after the honey moon.

If you absolutely must change it, keep all forms of ID with your current name on you, like driver's license. The name on the passport, i believe, must match the name on your ID.

I am so nervous now! What if we don't receive them before the HM? I really want to change my last name immediately...why does this have to be so complicated?

check with the PO. you can always pay extra $$ to rush the passport. so you can do all the name change after you get married and then rush the passport. i think you can get it in as little as a few weeks (it does cost more $$$ though). but double check with the post office.

The state dept website says 3 weeks for regular passport service....They said 4 weeks for mine and I had it in about 10 days

I ordered my passport and literally got it 6 DAYS later. I know I probably just got lucky but they said that since I am going to be changing my name within a year, I just need to fill out paperwork and send it in. I wont be charged again. I think you should try that cause this way you wont have to stress about getting everything in in time and then you wont have to pay again. JMO

Thanks! FH and I are going to fill these out ASAP and get down to the p.o. and see what they say. If it may be a problem, we may just wait, have my name changed, and pay the extra $. Thanks, everyone!

What name did you book your airline tickets in? If it's your maiden name, DON'T change your passport....it will cause problems...

OH, shoot! It is in my maiden name. Does this seriously mean I have to wait to change my name? This really upsets me. I have been looking forward to having my students call me by my new last name...

Your passport always has to match the name on your ticket or else you will have serious problems. In fact, you can legally change your name, leave your passport in your maiden name, and book all your flights in your maiden name. As long as you are not attempting fraud, you are still within your legal limits to do so.

BTW - when I applied for my passport, I got it within a few weeks. It did not take months at all.

Unless you can change your name on your plane tickets, then I think yes...the name on your tickets has to match your identification, and if you are going out of the country, then obviously you need to make sure your passport matches...

Sorry!!! There might be ways around it for you at work though. I know at my job I just had to show them my ss card and my marriage license (i think...might have been my driver's license). BUT, I still haven't changed my passport, so you could always just keep that in your old name maybe? (unless 2 forms of pic id are needed...)

As long as your passport matches the name on your plane ticket you won't have any issues.. Get it now, and keep your maiden name on ur plane ticket.
