I just have to vent this! My FMIL is a pain in the @ss!! She lives 4 hours away and is here every other weekend. This weekend she babysat so she stayed somewhere else. She calls up and says that she wants to stop by to say goodbye. Ok, I figure, stay 5 - 10 min and leave. NOPE!! She wants coffee. I tell her we have no milk. She asks who's running to the store. It's f-ing pouring out so why don't you take your *** to the store!?! FH acts like an @ss sometimes around his mommy bc she is always up in everyones business. He starts criticizing me in front of her so I said- why do you act like an @ss when your mother comes over? And I left the room. Now I hear them whispering.
Two weeks ago she was here and jokingly made a comment about my mother's weight. I don't know why but I just hate this woman!

Sorry Nic, I just came across this post.
I feel bad that you have to put up with a woman like that and nonetheless, FH did added to the situation.
I give you credit for being able to deal with this. I have a gf who does not get along with her mother in law at all. It has gotten to the point where they fight and curse each other out. I know it is hard but my advice to her is to just try to keep her mouth shut b/c I know my friend can be really nasty too. I always tell her to have her husband talk to his mom about things b/c that is his responsibilty and his mother. I am going to give you the same advice. I know it is easier said than done and I am sorry you have to put up with stuff like this.

nobody on the planet (besides me, of course) is allowed to say anything negative about my mother...your fmil needs to be quiet.
my favorite reply to any weight related comments is...(you fill in the blanks with the appropriate reply)
'well, she can lose weight...but you'll still be_________'
for example - to my ex-husband's girlfriend, who decided to comment on the size of my thighs - I replied, 'well, I can lose weight - but you'll still be white trash.'
Get it?
Works for me every time.
Try it yourself if she makes another comment about your momma!
and count your lucky stars she doesn't live across the street, Jiffy!

I totally feel your pain and aggravation. i have he same situation. i dont know where men come off being different. my fH does the same thing when we go to visit his mom in NC. he best not make it a habit.. he shouldnt forget where he sleeps at night.

Sorry to hear that she's a pain Nic!! This makes me think of the episode of Everybody loves Raymond....where Ray is talking about the radius of how far away your parents should live from you......they shouldn't be so close that they'll be over all the time, and they shouldn't be so far that when they do come they have to stay over.......but at least your FMIL is 4 hours away!! Mine is 2 BLOCKS away!!!!! what were we thinking when we moved here?
lol, i remember that episode!! and nicole, i sooo feel your pain. mine also lives 2 blocks away... and she is also a huge pain in my rear. i think it's an unwritten law or something for mother-in-laws. and kudos to you for saying something to your FH about how he acts when she's around... i would also mention to him that i heard them whispering. ugh, many
