I am going to kill fh

He tells me that this weekend we should look at these new condo's built in astoria, they should be open soon they were building them. I told him i heard they were charging alot but he said the real estate agent told him the prices are negotiable but the prices are so high even negotiating it won't help ...for these prices might as well buy a house rather than $500-700k for 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Of course i continue to look at all the new Long island city and astoria apartments and lofts built some are 700k for one bedroom W**

and here are random pics of apartments in long island city and astoria. Many of these are about $800-1.6 million for apartments its getting insane. The prices are still high for these places, no matter how the market is although im sure there is room for negotiating but still lol...fh had no idea about the prices for the condos he wants to look at, i think he didnt want to believe what ive been telling him for a while and hoping it'd be lower

yeah many of the ones in LIC are right by the water, right where i took my e-pics by vernon and hunters point. The ones in astoria well one is on 21st, close to astoria park and another new one is on 45th street and ditmars boulevard and a few new ones are being built now.

I wonder if the hookers are still at hunters point

no lol i hope not, too much to do then. I am hoping to close SOOn after the wedding, well at least that'd be idea. We are going to put in a request for the week after the wedding since we arent leaving for the HM until a week after but who knows. First have to find a place though, but weve only been looking in kew gardens and forest hills, not the new lofts and luxury high rise buildings in LIC haha

do you remember the special on HBO about hookers and the one that was real popular she was dressed as a nurse. That was all at hunters point. You used to drive by and they would be out by the dozens, i always remember seeing them and even in the winter they'd be out in a bra and under ...i have to admit i havent seen them out the past year or longer but i would guess they had to kick them out of there if they want to have ppl pay that much for apartments

so very true, maybe it can come in handy

this is why its even crazier to see how much these places cost...just a few years ago it was hooker infested and you didnt even want to go there at night and now this lol, sure has changed

the luxury buildings in LIC are gorgeous.

but don't even consider the pistilli riverview building in astoria... they can't give those apartments away these days. they sold a ton of them back in 2006 and the company still hasn't allowed people to even move into them yet (even with contracts signed!). sounds like they're having financial issues, etc. i could FM you more info you need it, lol.

fh and I are doing wedding pklanning and building at the same time. Construction at our house starts a week from today.Very STRESSFUL,. Good Luck

the ones on ditmars are also pistilli, its not money related i know why they havent opened up yet...alot of well wise guys deals and things being held up bc of that

I did see that special and they said it was in queens and FH and I thought they were lying. It is crazy how quick neighborhoods can turn around. Not too long ago people were scared to go to 42nd st, which was also hooker infested and loaded with quarter peep shows! If you can afford it without breaking the bank, go for it.

oh it would break the bank lol, there is no way hahaha, its just not worth it. For that money you might as well buy a house ya know.

well i can say i wont get a place with views of the city like that if we'd spend that much it'd be for a house. ALSO just to inform anybody who MIGHt be interested hahaha, MANY of these apartments are made cheaply, meaning appliances, cabinets and all that.

honestly though its not worth it. You know the last few pics i posted, well they are of arris lofts in long island city. Now anybody who takes the LIRR into the city probably sees these everyday its right before you go in the tunnel. They see it everyday bc the train goes RIGHT alongside the building, i see them everyday and the train passes by so close that you can see into the apartments and yes they are gorgeous but anybody on that site of the building has a view of the the train yard and its nasty lol so thats what you pay for well at least that side of the building, and right in front of it is the citibank building in LIC which covers the view from the city lol. Plus i know they used alot of cheap parts for that building to decorate it.

Wow those are gorgeous! It's amazing how much cheaper things get once you get out of NY.

There are apartments out here like that but they are nowhere near the price.... which is making things so much more complicated about whether to move back to NY or not

the lofts in brooklyn like in the williamsburg area, park slope and those parts are more

I always thought that hbo show was hunts point in the bronx - hookers on the point right? that was hunters point?? that's nuts. Hunts Pt is way scary - I had to visit a friend there once, hopefully it's nicer now.

i didn't read the whole thread, but I agree with you/others that those condos, while gorgeous, are way over price. My co-worker just closed on a condo on PARK avenue and 36th - new construction, 1 bedroom, 1k sq feet - for $990k. So that is a lot for LIC. i can see the draw though - they are so nice!

I go to law school in St. Louis. Not sure if we're going to stay here after I graduate or move back to NY (probably the city, because the NY job I'd be taking is in the city)

We have a ~1200 square foot 2br/2bath apartment, hardwood floors, bay windows, brand new, w/d in our apt, large kitchen w/ breakfast bar, large bathrooms, huge elevator, nice lobby, gated parking, etc in one of the more expensive areas based on location. One of my BMs paid more rent for her 450 sq ft studio in Manhattan It's kind of scary to think how much more we'll have to pay for a decent apartment

yeah its hunters point, there used to be tons of hookers and i would say only within the past few years like maybe 2 years they're not there anymore. They have been cleaning up the area alot. I mean vernon boulevard in lic used to be all warehouses and yeah scary. You wouldn't see many people out lol. They started building these high rises and many restaurants, cafe's, bars, lounges. Also we've had moma in queens which is in LIC which helped alot. I always say how they REALLY have to clean up the neighborhood before charging so much. I mean vernon is pretty good now and very lively but by arris lofts its dead at night, theres alot of businesses there now so in the daytime its packed but at night its different. I think its WAAAAY too much for LIC but hey people are paying i guess
