I am happy to say....

that we will have a chuppah!!

Turns out I called JT out of curiosity to see if they can supply a chuppah for the wedding. And they said it's included with the price of the chapel rental!!!

Now to convince FH we need to do the hora....to think he's the Jewish one and yet I'm the one excited about the Jewish traditions more than he is!!

MAZEL TOV TO YOU JANNA!!! Chuppah's are so meaningful and significant. An excerpt from my program if you will:

'The Chuppah is the wedding canopy under which (insert your names here) stand during the wedding ceremony. It represents the home they will build together as husband and wife. Reminiscent of the home of Abraham and Sarah, it is open on all four sides so that family and friends know they are always welcome....'

If you look at is as just a home you will create together, the significance is just really nice.

I just met with our bandleader last night, I told him I wanted a souped up hora - as ethnic as possible! TAKE NOTES JANNA!!! This is the ONE moment where you are treated as king and queen for the day as they lift you up in the chairs. People get SOOOO excited and show their happiness for you and it's wonderful! MILK IT for all its worth!

No fair--Your chuppah description was better than mine. Mine was okay but yours is so cool. And take dramamine before they lift you up in the chairs. I was looking forward to it and then I got so nauseous being bounced around. Still, the hora was fun and mine was a nice long one. You are right--everyone gets up for it and gets happy.

So Janna--Do the hora (at your wedding and Leslie's), have the chuppah, celebrate Hanukah AND drink your gin and tonic-a!!!!!

So the hora is done early in the reception? My only Jewish friend to get married only had her DH break the glass....he's Protestant tho....

The hora is typically done right after the motzi.

Leslie, now you have to school me.....what's a motzi?

Re: I am happy to say....

The motzi is the prayer over the bread that is said before people sit down for a meal. The reception doesn't begin until that happens.

Thats great, but does anyone have a picture of what it looks like? I've never seen one. I've never been to a jewish wedding, I've only gone to one wedding and that was a lesbian wedding at a UU church.

Ah, OK, thanks...I love how chuppahs look- they are all so pretty! Even when they are the simple ones without flowers.
