I am having a meeting with the VP of my dept- very serious

Girls, please pray for me.

To preface this- I will let you know I work in advertsing - I negotiate and purchase commercial time on behalf of my clients. Well I purchased a schedule on a specific station back in February- for it to run from FEb- June. It was confirmed- I have all of the paper work to prove that the station received the order and intended to run it.

Well on top of that I was supposed to call the station every week to make sure the order was running. I was doing it in the beginning, but I got lax- I had so many other things going on at work.

Well the last three months of the schedule did not run. The station did not inform me until the other day.

Needless to say I am in big trouble. I have to have a meeting to explain myself. The station sent two letters to my supervisors totally exonerating me of any blame, but it is still not good enough.

I do not know what to say at this meeting.

Just keep your chin up. Be strong. Explain what happened and suggest some solutions to solve this problem.

I would accept responsibility for being lax with the follow-up and describe how I have a folllow-up system in the future. I find that people are more forgiving when you own up to your mistakes and have plans to rectify the situation.

And, be honest. If you look like you're trying to play the blame game or wiggle out of taking responsibility, you won't look good. If you take full responsibility, explain what happened, and then explain that it will NEVER happen again, and offer a solution if there is one, you will look much better.

I cannot concentrate right now.

We have been understaffed at my job for the longest time. We do not have assistants it is quite the challenge, but some how I seem to make it through.

My VP is very anal and always on top of things- so to her it is unnacceptable.

I will own up to my mistake and offer possible solutions.

Did the station tell you why the spots didnt run? Will they offer you a makegood on this or is it too late? I am shocked the station didnt let you know until so late.

The station said that in April they changed their traffic system so all orders booked prior to April 1, got bumped out, mind being one of them.

I was furious because- hello no back up system and I am just finding out now.

Well they offered to re-run the schedule again, plus offer the same schedule at no charge- so a two for one.

They are totally willing to rectify it, as I said they sent two letters verifying this.

My VP's concern is the client and how she will react, so again the blame is shifted to me.

I see....I guess it depends on how strict the client is with the campaign flight dates.

I hope it works out ... I know you will get the blame from the client...but it really isnt your fault.

Maybe you should go with the I made a mistake and I will do everything I can that it will not happen again route?

also say that you've learned your lesson and it has actually worked out for the clients benefit...
