I am having a meeting with the VP of my dept- very serious

Original post by nrvbrd

Girls, please pray for me.

To preface this- I will let you know I work in advertsing - I negotiate and purchase commercial time on behalf of my clients. Well I purchased a schedule on a specific station back in February- for it to run from FEb- June. It was confirmed- I have all of the paper work to prove that the station received the order and intended to run it.

Well on top of that I was supposed to call the station every week to make sure the order was running. I was doing it in the beginning, but I got lax- I had so many other things going on at work.

Well the last three months of the schedule did not run. The station did not inform me until the other day.

Needless to say I am in big trouble. I have to have a meeting to explain myself. The station sent two letters to my supervisors totally exonerating me of any blame, but it is still not good enough.

I do not know what to say at this meeting.

Please send positive vibes.

Sweetie I am thinking about you!!!! Its kind of not your fault. You shouldn't have to follow up on adults to do their job. But since we still at this age have to babysit everyone, we always end up with the blame if a job isn't done up to par. Since this is the first time its happened I would just be honest when you meet with the VP.
Call me if you want to talk. I am here....

I work in advertising too and it sounds like the follow up should have been done by an assistant...or the station should have been faxing you pre logs of the schedule.
if that requrest was in place and u didnt have time to realize they didnt come..that just shows HOW busy your are and that u r missing staff.
something has to give and unfortunelty it has effectedt his client of yours.

do they have long campaign flights? if so then the station offer would def help and have them fax u prelogs each week

is this the only station that did not run the spots? isf so, figure out the percentage of spots that did not run ..that may put this in a different picture.
maybe 95% of the spots did run that were ordered in total-= then you are inside the industry standard (90%-110% post)

let us know..

Phyl.

I purchased 3 stations in the market- The other two stations ran a nearly perfect schedule. only one spot missed between the two.

The other station missed the last part of the flight.

As a whole they acounted for 9% of the budget- so 91% of what I guaranteed ran.

As for assistants I have not had one for 2 years. They laid them off due to budget cuts.

I do my work plus the work of an assistant- checking exact times- billing discrepancies, checking contracts etc etc.

I am just going to have to prove to them that I will be more proactive in the future and do better.

Well I still have a job. I just was told that I have to strive to be the best that I can be and that I cannot let things like this happen AGAIN. I have to go above and beyond to make sure mistakes like this do not happen again.

The worst part was the obvious disappointment from my supervisors whom I respect a great deal.

I just have to be on my P'S AND Q'S, more so than I already am.

I thank you all for your well wishes- you guys are the best.

Have people been fired at your job before for something similar?
Kysha it really wasn't your fault. And if it was...people make mistakes. I can understand if you were always doing it.

Thank goodness everything worked out okay!!!

Whew! I admit I was worried for you! I'm sure they realize normally you are at your best but to some degree you are overburdened. Keep you chin up and just prove to them you are as great as you always were.
