I can't believe I'm posting about this. FI and I can't agree to what color we want to paint our livingroom. We want something with color,(for the love of all that is holy, no white.... that's all I've lived with for my whole rented adult life) but not too deep because it's not a large room. I'll post a pic of the room below. Also, the kitchen leads into the LR, do I need to tie the kitchen color into the LR color? The kitchen is sort of a sage color.
Also, do we need to take into account that we have a brick hearth? We will be painting all of the trim white as well (except for around the hearth, that will stay wood)
If anyone has any pics of rooms with a brick fireplace or hearth AND has hardwood floors, could you post pics? By the way, the furniture is now gone... all of it belonged to the sellers....
We are going to do a light tan in our living room with white trim. We also have wood floors. That would work in your house also, it goes with sage. Nature colors

Re: I am HOPELESS at picking out colors.
we have a grea color in our living room and dining room (which is paired with a green - we did two colors with a chair rail)--anywho...its called oklahoma wheat, by behr. the color is very warm, without being bright. it leans toward the yellow side...but not a sunshine yellow.
it works really well with everything we have. good luck!

I'd agree...tan or a soft, buttery, almost a hint of gold yellow

first off let me say what a beautiful living room you have..and secondly you could go with a light buttery or coffee looking color or you could go with a warm georgian leather color..good luck

How about a khaki type of color. DH and I painted our living Expedition Khaki by Behr and it looks great.
We have similiar hard wood floors.

I just saw the post by Kathy116 -- how about a color similiar to that. It's really pretty!

Re: I am HOPELESS at picking out colors.
We just painted our living room beige... but the color dryed to be a little bit more on the peachy side.
The room looks great, but because our kitchen was pastel green (seller's choice, not ours), the two look like an episode of the golden girls. So now we will be painting the kitchen too.
I agree that a tan will look good for you.

THanks septbride!
This is the color palette my interior designer came up with for all the rooms of our house (she did every room...what a job!)
The only color that is not on there is our bedroom color. These are all Benjamin Moore Historic Collection. Our living room is Powells Buff:
