2 months until my wedding and my mother hasn't even ordered a dress!!!!!!!! WT*F?????? 6 months ago I did an incredible amount of research. I basically went to every MOB dress designer's website and emailed pics to my mom of like 50 dresses that I though she might like. She ignored me. I offered to go dress shopping with her. She didn't buy anything. She tried to place an order last Monday and on Friday the dress shop called her back and told her that the manufacturer said there was no way that they could get the dress on time. Now she is looking around for a new dress. I advised her that at this point she will probably not be able to get a dress at a bridal shop and will instead have to get something off the rack at Nordstroms. She says thats not true. I am so mad.

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
You can be irritated, yes. My mom kept refusing to go to a dress shop with me or look at dresses 'until she lost weight'. I am under the two month mark as well and she has no idea what she's wearing 'maybe just something I have in the closet' is what she's saying now and it's driving me bananas. You know, her only child is getting married and she can't be bothered to buy a dress, that hurts a little.
I feel your pain. Estelles had a lot of nice things off the rack. Much as I dislike that store I found some great stuff for my mom (who is plus sized) on their plus sized section, not marked MOB and beautiful.
Your mother sounds like mine which means she's only going to do things to her timeline. So maybe suggest somewhere like Estelle's and she'll go in her own time.

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
She likes the Mon Cheri Montage dresses and I do too. My mom is plus size as well which makes it more difficult because most of the samples are too small for her to be able to try on, so you can't even get a sense of what the dress would look like on her and it makes me nervous to order out of the catalog because your ordering something you have never seen in person. They make everything look great in the catelog and then you get it and it doesn't fit the way you thought it would and the color is not what you thought, you know. And oh of course, she wants a dress that magically makes a plus sized woman look like a size 2! Well, I do too but can we please be realistic here?

You're not wrong...but I found a great store when I went shopping with my mom...My mom is mini so as far as plus sizes go, I'm not sure, but you can call and ask:
Isles Fashions Inc (516) 922-3030
1031 Oyster Bay Rd East Norwich, NY 11732
The people that work there are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
My friend recently went through this with her wedding and her FMIL and FSMIL. They waited until the last minute to buy a dress and then they bought them off-the-rack.

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
I dont see the problem with off the rack.... but i would expect my mom to be a little more into looking for a dress for my wedding...

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
i am dealing with this too with my mom & FMIL. they both want to loose weight before the wedding (neither of them need to) so they both refuse to go shopping. & my mom has to pick a dress first before FMIL will even consider looking. this is going to go on for months i can tell.

Sounds frustrating! I'm sure she can get something beautiful off the rack

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
My mom is doing the same thing. It got so bad that I picked out and ordered 4 dresses for her from Bloomingdales. She's itty bitty so it makes a little bit easier. I just checked and they are scheduled to arrive at her house today. I will be going over there tonight for a fashion show!

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
I can understand why you are frustrated. The bridal store that my mother ordered her dress said the dress needed to be ordered 5 months before the wedding. However, other places may have a rush policy where she can get a dress. My FMIL got her dress at Macy's it is really nice. Has she looked at any of the department stores?

What's wrong with buying a dress from Nordstroms? Who said it has to come from a bridal shop?

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
I don't think its a big deal- a lot of moms don't even want to wear a MOB dress. They would rather go to a dress tore or a department store and pick something out. Im sure she will find something beautiful and look great! Don't sweat it!

Try Estelles in farmingdale. There plus size section is huge and they have many MOB dresses.

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
Also...Davids Bridal has a large plu size section of MOB gowns and you can buy them off the rack.

Re: I Am Mad! Am I Wrong?
Oh and also, at the bridal shops where my mom and I went (we went to 3 of them and she tried stuff on but didn't like anything) the cheapest dress she tried on was $550!
Bloomingdales, Nordstroms, Saks, Neiman Marcus - beautiful dresses - the most expensive one I ordered for her to try on was $388 because it was on sale!

My mom got her dress at Estelle's too...off the rack and not even in the MOB section. She has a hard time finding a dress, that fits her body shape and this one worked. I wasnt crazy about it-- she said she would keep looking and she said she has but hasnt found anything better . I personally dont think she looked enough or in the right places and I was annoyed at first that she wasnt trying hard enough to find a 'wow' dress for her daughter's wedding. But at the end of the day it has to fit her style, her budget and her comfort. I realized that its just the way my mom is-- its more important for her for me to look great and the flowers to be beautiufl etc etc than for her hair make up and dress to be 'wow'. I have to love her for that-- it;s never about her (even when i wish it was). So anyway.. maybe take your mom's actions as more of modesty rather than a lack of interest in your wedding day =),
