I'm having my invitations custom made - so that they match the placecards, menu cards, table numbers, etc - all done by the same company with the same custom design.
Unfortunately, she's been IMPOSSIBLE to work with, and every time i ask about deadlines and when to get my stuff, she cites her contract and says things take 6-8 weeks, blah blah blah.
Well here we stand 60 days before my wedding and I still don't have invitations. She said they won't be mailed from her until the 8th, which means i won't get them until the 12th or later. And i'm on VACATION that week. So i won't get them in the mail until the 19th!
I've been asking about overnight delivery options, etc and she keeps puting me off. I haven't seen proofs of anything except the invites - and I'm at the point where if i can find a company to overnight me invitations I'll go for it and lose the $$ I paid her.
HELP - do you know anywhere (not Michaels, we're not DIY people) where I can order invitations and basically get 24 hour turnaround? I HAVE to get invites out before I leave for vacation.

i dont think its a 'rule' but all sorts of drama usually takes place if you mention specific names.

If you sent out save the dates, I wouldn't worry about it. You can always create an ewedding website that lists all of the wedding details and email the link to your guests if you choose not to email everyone with the date. I think weddingpaperdivas.com can have them to you in a week if you expedite the shipping.

Now if her contract states specific time lines and she technically is abiding to it, really nothing you can do. I would wait and send the invites out a bit later, if you did STD's like everyone said its not a biggie if they are even a month before the wedding date.
Maybe while you are away you can get the BP or your family to start getting the invites ready to send out or even be sent out.
Honestly when I do design work, I start from the actual time when it is needed and work from there with deadlines. Ex. I need to send invites out on Aug 8th, so you should have a delivery date of those invites two weeks before that just to verify things are there. The only way things go behind schedule is if the designer is a freaking loser who can't deal with deadlines, printer he/she is using screwed up and it had to be reprinted and she/he should of made you aware of that problem, or you held up the proofing process.
Edited: Any business should proof EVERYTHING to you before printing. Unless you made no changes to the sample but even then a proof is really a safeguard. This person you are describing really sounds unprofessional.

Extremely unprofessional- and she's blaming me for everything! I couldn't get a DATE out of her for weeks as to when the invites would ship. The contract doesn't say 4-6 weeks from signing off on the proof. it just says 4-6 weeks, so i assumed from the order date.
and she wouldn't send me a hard copy proof- saying that would delay the process by 2 weeks!!!

sorry this had to happen to you. i hope that at least your bridal party or family can help to send them out while you're on vacation. it would be such a shame to spend more money on a new pair of invites.
We ordered ours online on a Saturday and had them in hand (express delivery) on the following Wednesday and they were GORGEOUS. Got our place cards and ty notes from them as well since it was a full matching set.

Costco online - it takes 5 business days to manufacture, and you can order next day airmail. (get them in 1 week).
Also www.theamericanwedding.com has a 3-4 turnaround too.
I got mine from costco, in 5 days. they came out awesome and the price was GREAT!!!!!!!! they really have some beautiful ones on the site.
