I am pretty sure I am being a brat but I am going to post this anyway -- UPDATED WITH GIFT DETAILS!
Original post by runnerbride1023
i was chatting with my friends this week and my e-party and my registry came up. And my one friend says, I do not do registries, so i got you something else, and a few of my other friends said the same thing. And I am so appreciative of the gifts and everything they have done for me and will do for me, but is it wrong for me to actually want what is on my registry and not something else?
How bratty am I being scale of 1-10? i am thinking about a 9...
OK so I saw this thread floating around today and I have to tell you, after opening my gifts yesterday I feel like such a horrible person for complaining about it. My friend got us the cutest gift ever!
His and hers matching robes and had them embroidered with each of our monograms... his nPj and mine rPa. It was so thoughtful and really really cute!

I dont think you are being bratty. The registry is there for a reason - so that people can get you what you need to help you out!

Ok so I dont feel bad anymore! I just smiled and nodded when she said it and changed the conversation. And it is not like I have nothing left on there, there are plenty of options in all price ranges.
I have added to gifts with things not on the registry before, but I always try to stick with what the bride and groom wants no matter how ridiculous I think the item may be!
Ok now my venting is getting a little OOC!
I guess I will wait until Sunday and see what the mystery gift is!

i dont think youre being bratty, the whole point of registering is so that people know what you want/need and so that youre house will actually match and not be a mishmosh of other people's tastes lol
dont get me wrong i appreciate anything anyone gives me, but i just dont understand why they make it harder on themselves and try to find a gift which will prob end being duplicated anyway creating more work for me in the long run returning one of them lol

the whole point of registering is so that you don't get duplicates & you actually get stuff you need.

i kind of agree but only for the shower...in that case i think you should get something off of the registry.
however, i didnt register for my eparty bc i didnt want ppl to feel forced to buy something off it. e-party gifts are traditionally small tokens or like frames/vases/etc rather than the big houseware items you would register for so i think its ok if someone doesnt get a gift off your registry for the e-party.

It's not being bratty, I mean you register for things that you need and want so of course you're going to want people to get you those things.

Not being bratty at all! I had a different but similar incident happen over our engagement gifts this weekend...
We have been getting a bunch of gifts from FH's stepmother's friends (all of who are not currently on the list so having to figure out how we are handling that!) and they complained to her that they don't 'like' our registry (as I was trying to be 'practical' and only registering for things we needed and a few 'pretty' stuff like expensive serving plates, etc.). She told me her friends didn't want to get us pots and pans etc. so they went off the registry to get us silver platters, etc.
I don't mind if people get us stuff off the registry but wouldn't they prefer to get us stuff we need? They wanted to buy us prettier stuff, not practical stuff apparently. So after I got home I went onto Bloomingdale's and put a bunch of expensive serving platters so they will be happier now buying us that instead of the practical dishes, towels, etc. that we'd prefer to get>

I'm not the registry type. However, I have friends that are doing the registry thing. I find it so simple to just go to their registry, purchase something I know they want, case closed! Being a brat.......I don't think so. What do you have a registry for?

As long as your registry has a variety of price points on it and still has items left on it then I say no way are you being bratty! I really don't get why people would go off the registry, unless it's something they KNOW you actually want/need.
FH and I already have just about everything you would register for between the two of us. We basically set up our registry to prevent people from buying us things they *think* we need but in reality already have. While I would never complain about a gift (or lack there of) I don't understand why people would go off the registry for frames, platters, bedding, etc that you very well may not need or like. I really don't get that line of thinking, if they don't 'like' what you registered for, how about money?

I am of the opinion, no matter where the gift comes from, you accept it graciously.
When did registries become mandatory? Some of the most thoughtful wedding gifts my SIL has were not from her registry, and she treasures them.

maybe they are surprising you with something really special and from the heart? You never know, wait it out and see what it is!

I agree that registrys are there for a reason. However I didn't register right away because I didn't want people to feel obligated. Even now my registry is pretty empty. I have the opposite I have been told that my registry is boring.

I agree w/all of the above ladies (so happy everyone is super supportive!!!!)....def not being bratty & believe me I know how hard it is to 2nd guess ourselves on reactions b/c we dont want to turn into a bridezilla!!!! But like I said, no your reaction it totally correct in my opinion!!!!
thinking back to my days w/friends reg's.... 10x's out of 10 if i didnt buy something off of it it was b/c I was lazy and just gave the $ instead.

Not bratty at all! But like others have said, accept it graciously. Hope there's a gift receipt, then exchange it. LOL

I agree with you - i don't understand why, if you have a registry, people can't just get you something off of it

See??? Just because it's not from a registry doesn't mean it's not a good gift.
