I am sad...

I am sad...

because I didn't have a engagment party and I think is too late for one.... When we first got engaged my mom friends offer us a engagment party at her house (something in the backyard simple) I told her that during the summer after I finished school . This was last april thinking for summer 07 well everytime I mentioned to FH he said it was a waste of money blabla so everytime my mom friend metioned I had to say I am waiting on FH to tell me a date... At the same time I mentioned once to FMIL to check if she wanted to help with the food and all that and she said it was a waste of time and money (opinion who made FH more into the idea not to have one)..... My mom always said that she cant maybe make a engagment/ graduation party this june (I graduate this year) but I don't want to put more pressure in my mom shoulder (she is paying for the entire wedding w/ out my dad's help)...

But now that people are talking about engagment party and what they did I feel sad because I would love to have one but now I think is too late... plus I dont feel the suport of FH

P.S. FH and his family are not the type used to engagment party or even weddings so I thinks is that he is not used to all this...
Sorry to hear my long vent but I feel blah and kind of sad everytime I think of it.

Dont feel sad. I wanted an e party as well but FH thought it was a stupid idea and said it was a waste of money and just another way of getting gifts. He said we should put that money towards the wedding, which we did. I sometimes think it would have been fun but I have to think it about the bigger picture and say its not worth it, especially if FH is not into it. Just think about the wedding to come and try not to worry about it.

When I notice FH not interest I said watever but the more I think of the most I regreted. And the main thing is that someone is offering us to help us (my mom's friend) and is not like we are paying for the wedding so we really dont have a expense

i didnt have an engagement party.....i neither set of parents offered, and at the time i thought it was tacky to throw it ourselves, but now i see so many engaged couples are doing it so i'm a little sad that i didnt do it either....BUT i have a potential solution!!!!!

you could do a 1 year to your wedding kickoff party! i saw another bride on here had one, and did just dessert and coffee....this is her invite, i thought its sooooo cute!!! so i plan to do a kickoff party with just our parents, siblings, & BP.

Re: I am sad...

our e-party was 1 day after the 1-year-to-go mark! it was 3 months after we were engaged, but i thought it was plenty of time before the wedding.

we didn't have a mini-wedding e-party at a hall with a dj, florist, etc but we did have an awesome sit-down luncheon at an italian restaurant for ~ 90 guests. it was lots of fun

if you really want one, you can do something more low-key

I still think u can do one this summer. You can do something small... we had out at a KOC and the koc catered it for us and gave us all the paper goods.. we just paid per person and it was so worth it. We had a great time. FH thought we were going to lose money by having one but we actaully made a extra $3,000 from what we spent.

I know how you feel..

FH's parents don't live in the country, and my mom is a single parent. No one has offered to throw us an engagement party and me and FH were talking about throwing it ourselves, but we both have big families, and a large bridal party which means the party would be large, and if we had to pay for the party ourselves, essentially it would be taking money away from the wedding.

Im so happy to ready about everyones eparty plans, but I guess it makes me a little sad that we couldn't have one. I feel that we haven't really done anything to commemorate the engagement.

ETA: I feel that we haven't really done anything to commemorate the engagement, as in with our families and friends. About a month after our engagement we went to atlantic city for the weekend and called it out engagement honeymoon.

Dont be sad! Have a party if you really want one or have that one year away party. I'm having an eparty and I'm planning on having a huge Halloween/one year until the wedding party! I guess I just like to party!

Your right but parties cost money, and I feel like all the money we have right now needs to be tied into this wedding.

Its ok. I'll get over it soon. Its just been on my mind lately because so many of the girls on here are getting ready to celebrate theirs.

ETA: I didn't mean that to sound like im not happy for everyone. I am! I love all my LIW girls! I cant wait to see pics from everyones parties!

Re: I am sad...

I can relate 100%

When we first got engaged (Summer of 2006) we had NO money at all put away for a wedding and I really wasn't sure when we were going to start planning anything. I really wasn't in a rush at all. We told close family and friends that we were engaged but that was about it, we never really made a big deal about it at all. FH's family is not into the wedding at all, and his family never really has big wedding or anythign either. As for my side, I remember going to one engagement party when I was a lot younger and thats it. So I never really thought about it...and neither side of parents offered, which is understandable because they really don't have the money to give us. I didn't want to throw it ourselves because 1. We had no money and everything we did have we wanted to save for the wedding and 2. I feel so bad asking people to come to a party where they feel obligated to give a gift...this is such a bad hang-up to have but it's actually something I feel bad about - even for the wedding! lolz

But now that I see all this e-party planning and the pictures I want one really, really badly!!! I'm almost 100% sure I won't have one but I really wish one set of our parents would talk us into it that way I could have an excuse to feel better about it lolz but I know it won't happen!

I dont think it's too late. I think its great that someone is offering their house for your e-party. FOr the most part men think E-parties are stupid, but thats only b.c they dont know any better. I just booked mine 3 days ago for March 22nd, b.c it took me that long to convince FH, LOL.
