I got engaged Saturday night in Little Italy. Trish thinks I am crazy but I haven't stopped crying!!!! After 3 years!
Anyways....the big BIG question....
Anyone have an engagement party? Even if it's in the SAME year as your wedding...and did anyone (like your MOM) think it wasn't a good idea?
FH and I want to - he's in North NJ and they do this awesome thing called a beefsteak (filet mignon dipped in butter - sounds gross, but it's amazing) and it's like a fun type of event. I want to do that for engagement party but my mom is against the whole idea...
Hey Lisa..... I am sooo happy. You know my opinion. Go for a low key engagement party. don't invite everyone under the sun or they have to come to the wedding. It will be fun.

We had an engagement party. It was last year. Our wedding is this coming july. I would have your engagement party the year before your wedding. Don't go crazy with inviting everybody.Thats just my opinion. By the way Welcome to the boards and Congrats!!

FH and i got engaged on oct 2.. we're having our eparty on dec 4th.. it'll be smallish (about 50 or so people) and it'll be at my parents house in the poconos (they own a B&B). we'll be getting married on may 5th and 22nd (one in vegas one in LI..just to be complicated)
so i dont think its weird for you to have an engagement party. have it whenever you want. you wanna celebrate your engagement (and get some fun gifts while you're at it )
and by the way that filet seems interesting.. definitely something i'd wanna try once

about your mom not thinking its a good idea. all moms dont like it at first. they dont want their daughters really growing up.
my mom was hesitant about an eparty at first.. but then shes like well i had one you have to have one. (not to mention my sister had one in june )
so yea.. just wanted to add that in

Congratulations on the engagement!
I had an engagement party and to everyone's suprise it was just as nice as a place for a wedding. We had a great time and it was a nice thing to do since we weren't ready to book for the wedding. Have a party and celebrate this happy time!!!
