I am sooooooo upset

I just found out that there is going to be construction of a HUGE tent and other structures outside of my venue which has a lot of outdoor space on the day of my wedding. My dad had called the parks department to see if we could get a permit for something and they said were the ones who told and us and said THEY COULD NOT BELIEVE our venue had not told us this . . they said construction was until 8:00 (our wedding as at 5:00) So now we can have our whole cocktail hour in the midst of a construction site with loading trucks, vans, drilling. . I seriously can't stop crying. . I swear I would cancel the venue this minute if I thought I could find another place. . .it's like everything keeps going wrong

anyway - thanks for listening. .i just needed to vent. .

we are trying to find out exactly where everything is going to happen and then I am going to try to negitiate a BIG discount. . but i totally don't even care about the money. .

OMG I cannot believe that they would not have told you of this!!!!

If I were you, I would try to get every concession you could, BUT also call around other places to weight your options. Seriously, you could get a sick deal if your date happens to be unbooked this soon out.

I work across the street from Battery Gardens. The construction has not been too noisy for a while now (since they finished the station). Don't worry to much. I know it is frustrating but your wedding will be beautiful!

thanks but I think it's different construction. .they told me it's only starting that wknd. . it's for this huge gala event for the big apple circus and some other organization

Oh my goodness!! I'm so sorry to hear this!!!! Maybe it's not as bad as it sounds. I hope you are able to negotiate every extra you want because of this huge 'oversight' on their part. I really hope that their not telling you this wasn't intentional, because that's really messed up. Good luck with this, and let me know if I can help in any way. I feel so bad. ITA!! DEFINITELY try to get as many extras as possible! I would say look around for other venues but if your invites are already printed and/or sent out that is probably too late.. I am so sorry you have to deal wih this B.S... Hopefully it's not that bad!

If it makes you feel any better, my church is covered but a scaffolding that was supposed to be gone by March....

You should tell the circus that they are obliged to come and perform for you

yeah in a lot of indian weddings the grooms get to come in on elephants or horses. . yeah if the circus was actually there on that day my guests could have llama rides! i could pretend it was intentional!!

ugh, that's so awful!! i'm so sorry too!! i agree here, maybe they can give you sick discounts because of this bs oversight!!! they should have told you that!

if you cant or dont want to change venues see if you can get discount and add ons.....is there anywhere indoors you could do CH?

or what about having your CH tented? you know those tents that have walls? maybe you could do an open tent om 3 sides with one wall down (so that it blocks the construction view) - im not sure what the place looks like but maybe that would be an idea?

i would also have live music for CH to block out the sound of construction.....i know that will cost you more $$ but maybe that is something you can work out with the venue? strings, or a jazz band would be nice and would probably distract from construction sounds
