I am THISCLOSE to quitting

Original post by StayandJohn

For 6 months I had to be assistant to one of the partners while his assistant was on medical leave. Praise the Lord she is back now I am free to do what I was hired to do. I was in our copy room which has a door to a conference room, I cannot see in there. Partners assistant brought a client into the conference room and left the door open. We dont have huge clunking copy machine, none the less I am making my copies and partnerman comes in and starts screaming at me!!! STACEY WHATS WRONG WITH YOU YOUR MAKING A RACKET AND I HAVE A CLIENT HERE

EXCUSE ME??? Why didnt your frigin assistant close the door how the hell was I supposed to know that someone was in there????

I have taken so much abuse from this jerk that I really just want to quit and look for something else

I think most of us have at one point worked with a jerk like that, either a boss or co-worker.

I have worked in a place where the big wig was a major a$$ and acted that way to his 'underlings'. Lets just say he didn't work there for long. I heard he had similar problems at the next job he went to.

If you can, talk to HR. It's hard when it's a small firm.

Can you switch to be someone else's assistant who doesn't have an office near this jerk?

Hang in there!

I'm sorry that you're going through this...I left my job back in June due to a jerk for a boss. He talked down to me all the time and made me feel stupid. As a few others have said, you need to do what's best for you and you don't deserve to be treated that way.

Can you say hostile work environment? Violation of civil rights, labor law, a plethora of other local, state, and federal laws...you do NOT need to tolerate this kind of behavior. You should keep a written record of all comments and actions of this nature and definitely, definitely report it to someone in HR. If you're going to quit this job, make sure that you have a documented case against this jackoff for constructive discharge (i.e., he has made your working conditions so intolerable, you had no choice but to quit).

I've worked for assholes like this before, and I swore I would never do it again. You are so much better than that!
