about 3 weeks ago i boooked the beach club estate for my wedding, but it only holds about 160 people. we have been working on the guest list and got the list from both families and it turns out that the place will not be able to accommodate us. my fh called today to see if we can get our 1,000 deposit back, i know its non-refundable but they have one year and 2 months to fill in that spot, as it is, it was the only day left for next summer. he was rude and obnoxious on the phone, they jsut want to make money off of us even though we only had it saved for less than 3 weeks. sorry, jsut had to vent. now we loose 1,000 dollars. i would not reccommend this place or windows on the lake ( same owner) to anyone.

I think there is a law in Suffolk that if it's before 6 months you can get all but $100 back...I am REALLY UNCERTAIN of this but I could have sworn that I saw that on a post around here somewhere....

Sorry to hear you are upset. But at least you found out about their attitude now before you gave them more money and potentially had more problems.

Aww, I'm so sorry for you!! Maybe you can work on your guest list, you know about 20% of the people you invite aren't gonna be able to come.
If you still need to find a new place read the fine print in your contract. Search for a loophole, there may be something in there about possibly getting your deposit back, or at least a portion of it.
If nothing else just remember, you're marrying the one you love. Everything will be fine!

I know...I remember seeing it and I am searching and can't find it.....
We did. Our original hall was in Suffolk county and it was > 6mos prior to the wedding. Therefore, by Suffolk Law, they have to give you all but $100 or so back. If your catering hall/reception site is not in Suffolk, I'd say just read your contract and see what the deal is. I think a lot depends on how close the date is, but most of the time, your deposit and any other $ you've paid is not likely to be coming back your way if the contract states it as such... i just called, i have to send a letter to cacel, i am attaching the law that i printed out and by law they do have to give me my money back minus 100. hopefully no on eelse will have to go through this but jsut in case, here is the link to the site i found the law on:
