Oh Michelle...I am so sorry to hear that there is another setback...I know all the agita that you have been going through...you could move in with Vin's parents....;)

just think about the moeny you are saving though....and focus on the wedding which is in less than 40 days!!!!

We are building in Bohemia. THe town told us 10-12 weeks and they have been right on schedule, I just don't uinderstand why the delay now. Hopefully the architect can prepare what they need in a timely manner.

Erica - I would rather take a bullet in the head then move in with vin's parents.

I really didn't want to come back form my HM and move back in with my parents.

how did you find the land, and how do prices compare with buying a house?

I have no idea what land would cost but ideally we'd find a nice plot and build a Sunlight Home

Lisa...I just saw some houses like that on HGTV...on extreme homes....they only need a propane tank for the gas stove....everything else is self sufficient...


btw...Michelle bought her land from her IL's...I know she is on the way to the builder right now and won't be on to post...

I don't think these are that self sufficient but they do conserve energy and I like the idea of designing our own home. They cost more than an average home but since they're based in New Mexico, you're paying NM prices and not NY. Would still have to add on the expense of builders in NY though...

wonder if shelzpy's IL's have any more land they're looking to sell

They just have the property next to their house to sell. We found that it was cheaper to have a house built. We are buying the land for 2/3 or the value, but even if we were buying it for the entire value, it would have still be cheaper. The drawback, I have been living with my parents for a year and 4 months, waiting on this house to be built, becasue it is always one thing or the other.

But we had to get a varience, which someone who is selling land would already ahve then when they go to sell.

We are getting a bigger house then my mom's on a bigger peice of land for a lot cheaper then they could seel their house for, and it will be brand new. So we figured it is was worth it. Downfall - we have to live next to my inlaws!!! Good point =- close babysitters, if we have kids!

Did you find a builder yet? Alot of times if you find a builder you want to use, they will have land they wnat to sell, or know where yuo can buy some.

thats great to know - thanks for the tip. Its still early in the process for us. We're just information gathering at this point.

We still have to get back to NY and secure jobs before any of this can become a reality.
