I am whining about Wine. pls help reposted from 08
Hey lovely ladies, I am jumping on before I run around again for work.
I know you ladies may know. And some have gone through this already
I am planning on doing wine favors. But I am annoyed at the prices I am getting. I want a nice wine in a 375 size or full that isn’t going to kill my FMIL budget (she is being a dear & getting this but I don’t want her to go too overboard). I am not a big red winer, lol, but FH is & there are a couple of wines he likes. I looked into Kendal Jackson Cabernet, b/c they did not seem too expensive but the 375 price was still over 7 dollars where I looked. (maybe the local liquor store here are charging too much, I have no idea) There was another wine I liked Louis Jadot wine but thanks in part to the Euro kicking our @ss, it went up in price too.
I am even trying to think about LI wineries (I would even drive out there!) but I am not sure which to check & which may do a nice wine in perhaps the smaller size at a good price?
Ugh. Any ideas, where to go on LI (I know there are some places in the city ie trader joes nfor two buck chuck), and what wines you are doing with ballpark prices (if you do not mind)
I would super appreciate this & want to get this done already.
Oh and advice for those thinking about doing this. buy the bottles soon if they are from Europe, because I think prices will still go up. Plus our wacky weather is sure to affect local grapes too.
TIA

Mondavi is pretty good, Yellow Tail from Australia. I'm not a fan of Pindar, so I can't help with that. Pugliese vineyards, Duck Walk, both from LI.
Go to you local liquor store and see what they recommend, and what they can do in your price range. Discount is usually about 10% per bottle. I did a Cab and a chardonnay from Smoking Loon, but they were $7 per bottle.
You can also try Bottles & Cases in Huntington - they run specials but don't always have the quantity from week to week. You kind of have to get it while you can.

Have you tried Costco? Meet with the manager and see if you can get an additional discount based on the number of bottles you will need.

I wound up getting bottles of Chardonnay and Merlot from Trader Joes for $2.99 a bottle and the wine is really good! We had to try it out! They have loads of cases and lots of different wines for $2.99 a bottle!

You should try Pops in Island Park. My family has gone to them for years and they have amazing prices.
Short story- I now live in DC and went to a wine tasting and the wine critic from the Washington Post was there. We were talking about me being from LI and he asked if I knew Pops cause they had the best wine prices he has seen in the country.
They are super nice and I bet would totally help you out to make sure you got something in a good price range that doesn't taste like bathwater!
And- like 2 times a year they have a 30% sale on all wines. I believe that is in September and January but call them and they'll tell you.
