I can't believe my SIL (long)
I can't believe my family sometimes. I was talking to my sister-in-law (brother's wife of 15 years). They live 7 hours drive away and have never visited us in 2.5 years that we've lived in NYC. That's ok, they have kids and we go up to visit my family every few months. So, my sister in law tells me they're thinking of visiting. That's great!
But, then she says 'Are you coming home for Thanksgiving?'. I say no so she says 'I think we'll come down there then'. I was a little taken back, and didn't know what to say. She says 'what were your plans' and I said that we'd planned to go to DH's parents for Thanksgiving dinner.
Her response? 'They won't mind if we come!'.
They JUST met his parents at our wedding. That's the only time they've met. Granted, it was a weekend wedding so we all spent some time together, but not enough for them to be inviting themselves over to their Thanksgiving dinner.
Plus, they have 2 children, so that's four people they want me to invite to my mother-in-law's house.
Ummm...I don't think so. I told them that if they come we can either go out to dinner or I'll make dinner, but I'm not inviting them to someone else's house.
How rude! I can't believe people.

Maybe if you mention it to you MIL she would invite them. I know my MIL has done that in the past. She will always invite my family over if she knows they are going to be around. Maybe yours would do the same.

you know you MIL better than us...but my mom or MIL wouldn't mind the extras at all...so you never know...but it may be fun to host your own t-giving party...

I think some people just dont think that thats an inconvenience. Maybe she thinks that she wouldnt really care so your MIL probably wont either.Sorry you have to deal with this sticky situation.
