My shower is saturday and there is practically nothing left on my registry. My grandmother bought ALL my sterling!! My three aunts bought ALL of my china!!
The sterling is Wallace Grand Victoria and the china is Spode Stafford Flowers and Sheffield.
I still have 34 crystal glasses (flutes, goblets, and wine) on the registry. They are $60 a glass. Do you think I need to add more stuff? I am worried that if I do no one will buy the crystal.
That's great that things are being bought. You must be so excited.

Ooooh.. That is so great. I hope that I get everything off of our registry! Can I ask you how you found out about your shower? was it supposed to be a surprise?!

Re: I can't believe it!
We decided for a few reasons not to make it a surprise.
1. I am too sneaky in terms of finding stufff out and my mom is not good trying to surprise me.
2. The party can begin immediately when everyone gets there. No waiting for me to arrive.
3. I can be involved in everything. I picked out the place, the menu, and the theme.
In fact, if you have a past Modern Bride issue, you will see exactly what we are doing. It is in a feature called A Garden Wedding. My florist actually did the layout for the magazine. So we figured to just have him do it for my shower as well.
Each table is named after an herb (i.e., lemon verbena, basil, mint, rosemary, etc.). On everyone's table is their favor: the potted herb to take home. The pots are terra cotta with moss all over them. They were $10 each. The florist is making them for us. The centerpieces are flowers and herbs together. They are also serving ice tea with mint in it.
The shower is at Diane's in Roslyn. We are having a cocktail hour, an appetizer (choice between chick pea salad with shrimp or salad with blue cheese, walnuts, etc.), entree (choice of duck with raspberry sauce, risotto with lobster, scallops, and shrimp, and shell steak), and dessert (choice between walnut brownie with banana ice cream, three different sorbets with cookie, chocolate mousse cake, or frozen cappuchino with homemade warm doughnuts.

I don't think you should add anything just because things are bought. I mean, you registered for what you needed, right? People will find things to buy you on their own if need be. Chances are they've already looked at your registry at this point, AND, you never know, your registry may be empty because the people going to your shower already bought your gifts. Not to mention if you add stuff now, people will know you've been looking at your registry. You don't want to seem like you're in it for the gifts. JMO.

Rachel-
All the stuff is bought, but I only think about 20 people bought stuff. There are 59 people coming to the shower!

Re: I can't believe it!
PLEASE don't take this the wrong way....but I don't think you should be worrying about how people are going to buy you gifts. You don't need that added stress! I know you are only concerned for the convenience factor, but I am sure people will be able to figure it out. And you don't know if people put in for a gift together or what not. Many people buy things that are not on a registry for a shower. But if it is causing you stress, then I guess you already have your question answered.

Rachel-
I wasn't offended by anything that you said. I was just clarifying. I registered at Williams Sonoma and Michael C Fina. Both places tell you who bought what for you. So it is easy to figure out how many people bought stuff.
Jennifer-
I would have LOVED to be surprised, but I knew that they were not going to pull it off. So why bother? It is also fun picking up the phone at my mom's house and watching the relatives squirm with me on the phone (even though the invite doesn't say surprise, people still think that it is).

Re: I can't believe it!
I say add more gifts. It doesn't necessarily look like you're in it for the gifts if you do this--you could've just realized that you never registered for other things you need. Besides, I doubt anyone is checking your registry and saying 'tsk tsk' every time you add something new. I think people would rather have guidance as to what to buy rather than getting something they hope you like, but might return later.
BTW, I have that issue of Modern Bride and though the Garden Wedding was so pretty. I'm also way too nosy not to be involved, so here's what I want to do. On the off chance, they do manage to surprise me, I might do this as the decor for the bridemaids' lunch.
Oops--the pictures are too big to post. It's 'The Look of April--Something in Blue' but I don't remember what magazine it's from.

I hate the size limits on pictures. If you get really curious/bored today, it's in my Knot bio--also 'jenniesunshine.'

Re: I can't believe it!
Well I would maybe add some more if you know how many people bought stuff...something less expensive maybe...unless everyone coming to your shower is well off, the reason the crystal may still be there is the price...I certaintly can afford shower gifts but would not buy the crystal because who wants to hand someone say 3 glasses... They do tell you to register for about 200 items...sounds like you did much much less so maybe add a few things your FH likes?
At this point, with it so close, there are probably only a few people who haven't purchased anything at this point, and since you dont have that many people coming, the majority is likely buying things not on the registry...
HAve fun!
