My best friend of 17 yrs. is upset because I don't want any children at my wedding. I explained to her that my catering hall charges full price for children and since my FH and I are paying for the wedding we can't afford it. So she told me pretty much she will not be part of the wedding if her 3 year old son can't be there. No problem.
She recently gave birth to a baby girl and sent me an email to let me know and to announce the name of the baby. I was in total disbelieve to find out she stole the name I had picked out for when I had a daughter. She always said she disliked the name and would never pick that name. Well, she did...first and middle name exactly how I had picked it.
I haven't sent her a congratulation email ... because I feel so betrayed.

Thats a rough one. I really don't know what to tell you! I'm so sorry that you feel betrayed. I'm sorry that your friend is being so selfish. I'm sorry that your catering hall SUUCKS and is charging you full price for little kids.

WOW.....I'd be so pizzzed!
She's a sucky friend. I would never take my friends' baby names......thats such a hard decision and if someone claimed it 1st, thats a big betrayal IMO

i would be pizzzed too!!!!! i dont blame you for being upset! i was debating not having kids too but luckily my hall has a good price for kids and there are only 5 of them

Nancy, my goodness! Weddings bring out the worst in people and sometimes all they can do is think about themselves. When time time comes for you to have children, name your child the name you've always wanted. Forget about her!! If she doesn't want to be a part of your big day because it's not the way SHE wanted it, then screw her!!!!

I completely understand why you feel betrayed and I have no idea why a 'friend' would do that to you.
Don't let her toxic attitude spoil your day. and if you have a daughter in the future name her the name you picked out FIRST anyway. The two girls probably won't be interacting much anyway.
We are not having kids at the our wedding either but most are guests are happy and looking foward to a 'night out' w/o the kids.

She's not as good of a friend as you think she is.
It's your wedding - do what you want.
And it's your child - name it whatever you want, whether or not she named her child the same thing.

I wouldn't consider her a friend any longer, and since she is no longer a friend, you can name your child whatever you want, even with the name you want.
A friend does NOT do that to another friend.

I had a 'friend' for 14 yrs and when I had my daughter we had a falling out. Turns out she wasn't really a friend after all. Sometimes it is hard to let go of long relationships, very hard. Good Luck with whatever happens, I hope it works out for you!

scary. sorry you lost your friend. it happens unfortunately. i have been there too.
it doesnt mean that she has always been not a friend/bad friend but people change and things happen and people are in our lives when they are for a reason and sometimes you lose them but find new ones.
keep your baby name. your child will likely not even know the other child, or your ex friend unless your neighbors!

Well the name thing is not a big deal and a congrats is always acceptable HOWEVER if she wont attend your wedding because her 3yr old cant come ....
gosh i dont even know what to say....how rude! what kind of friend is she? i would stic to my guns - im not having any kids at my wedding either and if someone doesnt want to come for that reason - well fine then i save $100 on their food. F Them!!!

OMG!! I know a few people like this in my life...that are copycats and as long as you remain friends...you will always have to take the high road in conflicts. I've learned to keep my mouth shut with certain things. But think of it this way...things happen for a reason and since you don't have kids yet and its possible you'll even have all boys but if you do have a girl...her name will be more beautiful than the first name you picked out b/c it wasn't meant to be her name.
