My best friend of 17 yrs. is upset because I don't want any children at my wedding. I explained to her that my catering hall charges full price for children and since my FH and I are paying for the wedding we can't afford it. So she told me pretty much she will not be part of the wedding if her 3 year old son can't be there. No problem.
She recently gave birth to a baby girl and sent me an email to let me know and to announce the name of the baby. I was in total disbelieve to find out she stole the name I had picked out for when I had a daughter. She always said she disliked the name and would never pick that name. Well, she did...first and middle name exactly how I had picked it.
I haven't sent her a congratulation email ... because I feel so betrayed.

Wow that is probably the most immature person on the planet. I feel bad for her kids. Imagine being named because your mother was mad at somebody and didn't have the skills to say so?
Act like you never got the announcement and name your future child what you want

Aghhhhh..... I personally would be SO ANGRY. I'm not sure what to tell you because just thinking of it myself is making me mad I would sit on it for a few days and try not to talk to her when your really angry or you might say something you regret.
PS. You could write her an email and say something like 'Congratulations on the new baby, her name is beautiful and sounds very familiar how did you come up with it '
That would probably get you in trouble though

This is rough! SHe has been your best friend for 17 years...so you cant just scratch her off your list. This is my opinion and it differs from a lot of the girls. If she brings her kid she will most likely cover the head charge...especially now taht you mentioned kids are full price. You should call her and tell her to bring the kid. She may even think twice...how do you have 100% fun with a three year old running around??? Im sure things will look up soon!
I cant believe you hall charges full price for kids. Thats just insane. Maybe you can call them and discuss it.
Even though she 'stole' you baby name. I would take it as a compliment. Imean you had to hear it somewhere in order to know of that name too. I would still name my baby the same. If you still friends when your babies grow up together...you will just have to explain......

Obviously she is not much of a friend. I would be so pissed about the name thing. Just try not to give any energy to her or anything about it. MOve on. It hurts to lose a friend, but if they are not positive you are better off w/o them.

one of the hardest parts of life (IMO) is learning that some people are selfish and are not the friend to you that you are to them. insisting that children be invited to a wedding is silly.
that being said you better keep the baby name!!!! probably about 1% of people in your child's life will know your friend's baby has the same name! plus she will be so pissed - LOL!!

Well, she sounds pretty selfish to me...
Since you probably won't remain friends for much longer- you can still use the name!
This reminds me of an episode of Sex and the City---where their friend steals Charlotte's girls name 'Shayla'
It was just on the other night....
Anyway, I'm sorry this is happening to you! Don't even give her the benefit of showing her that you care....just brush her off.

honestly, do you think someone would name their child a name they don't like just to betray you? That's going alittle far. Maybe she grew to like it and it seemed fitting for her now, should she not choose it because one day you may have a daughter and still want that name? My friend has had her girl name picked out since she was a kid, 5 boys later she still hasnt used it!

Well, I would have nothing to do with her ever again... and use the girl's name for my child anyway - as someone said - they probably wont have much to do with each other at this point anyway - sorry your friend su cks so bad, but this is the time you discover the good people - and the ones that blow - in your life....

I am so sorry to hear this
Weddings bring out the best/worst in your friends. It seems like your friend is very selfish and self-centered. Stand your ground and if she doesn't want to come to your wedding then let it go as hard as it might be. Chances are that she is not a good friend and that you won't want to be friends with her after the wedding anyways.
