Re: i cant believe this

Well, I have an array of feelings on this. First of all, I think it was probably the best thing to come out to the public to avoid blackmale. Secondly, I suspect his wife has known this. Maybe not all along, but she's known it for sometime. You could see it on her face. I don't follow NJ politics at all, so I don't know if he was doing a good job or not, but I say big whoop he's gay. If we went by the statistics, many more governors and senators and mayors and blah are gay, so that's not really shocking to me. I just wonder if the reasons he gave for resigning are really the reasons, or is something else going to surface that he wanted to cover up by coming out?

i'm sure he was getting pressure from kerry's camp

Since it's something that kinda just came out of left field (or out of the closet..heh) I guess it's hard to formulate an opinion, at least for me it is.

I don't know how good/bad job he was doing either, however, it's a shame that he is resigning over coming out of the closet.
However I think his resignation is more over having an affair.

I'm sure he'll stay in the political arena in some capacity.

Oh, I'm sure has shite that if Kerry gets elected, this guy will have a nice appointed position.

Have you heard anything to that effect? I am just curious...

I don't see how this has anything to do with Kerry.

I think it's a damn shame that he resigned and I still don't understand why he did. He's sending a bad message! Who cares if he's gay?? I don't see how that affects any of this. And, the affair...PLEASE. Need we go through the list of those in public office who have had affairs and still held their jobs? There has to be something more to the story that will eventually come out because I don't see why in the world he would resign over this.

I guess that's what it is then. I still don't think he should have resigned, at least not yet. It would have been so great to have a gay governor!

I think he resigned to protect himself - I mean he did give this guy a high salary position.
And also, maybe he wanted to protect his family from all of this - try to take them out of the lime light - so to speak.
I don't think it has to do with him being 'gay' per say, just everything that is surrounding it.

not to cause controversy, but in my opionion he did the right thing, he is sending the right message. This has nothing to do with the fact that he's gay. It has to do with the fact that he's been promoting family values for the better part of his term. he's been on TV with his WIFE and KIDS, saying come to NJ, family this and family that. If he had come out in the beginning and said this is who I am, and presented himself honestly, well then OK, but the fact that he has been leading his constituents to this facade of him being part of the All American family, is why I think he is right in stepping down. If you don't have people believing in who you are as a person, you have no business in public office.

Wasn't our old Mayor Koch gay????? Sure it was never made public but we all thought it.

I think it has to do w/ the affair & how he assigned this guy to a high position that he had no right getting the job. (he didn't last a year in the position)

From what I heard he was a great governor. Sad that he felt he had to end his term!!

I think he wanted to be a married man. This is wife # 2. He probably fought it as hard as possible. unfortunately, some men (& woman) feel that they have to hide who they are. And don't admit it even to themself until they are older. I know MANY a case that this happened to.
A friend of mine was engaged to be married & realised that he was gay. But for 25+ years he thought himself as a straight man.

I know I'm probably in the minority here but I don't see how being gay is in opposition to promoting family values .

Guiliani announced to his wife through a press conference that he was having an affair and wanted a divorce... Clinton...well, I'm not even getting into that. Ted Kennedy...another one that's not worth getting into but bottom line is none of these people resigned. I find it very hard to swallow that it's not really about him being gay.

i agree with you, you could still promote family values and be gay, BUT, when he's spent all this time portraying himself as straight to the public, that's where the problem lies

If he felt the need to resign and use the excuse that it's because he is gay, then...so what? If that was his choice, there's nothing you can say about it, right? ...Or, are you suggesting someone is behind him saying he's resigning because of the fact that he's gay--to maybe cover something else up? And are you saying that THAT is wrong and sends a bad message? (HI!!)

Re: i cant believe this

I believe the lawsuit that is being filed is extremely graphic in nature and I'm sure it will be embarrassing to him and his family and I think this is the reason he resigned - so the rest of his term is not a mess of reporters asking about his sex life.

I think it would have been great if he'd stayed on! I think a lot of people think he resigned because he's gay and that is a poor message.

I agree, if kerry gets elected, and this lawsuit blows over, he may be appointed to a nice position!
