This is the biggest stick in my side since planning the wedding. FHI and I are not overly religious... but I am afraid that I am going to regret not getting married in a church. I also found out that if you dont get married in a church its not actually recognized as a sacrament which bothers me.. Not sure why as I mentioned we are not religous. The whole 5 over gap bothers me too
RH seems so much more easy logistics wise.. timing wise.. less limos. ugh! I just dont know what to do.
Not to mention the priest at the church we would go to STINKS.. he speaks like a robot and is so quiet not animated or personalable at all

FH and I are not religious church goers at all BUT I always dreamed of getting married in the church. The whole walking down the aisle, the church doors opening etc. We also plan to raise our children Catholic and they will be making their sacraments so I figured it will make things easier when the time comes.
Also, the main thing I dont like about getting married at the venue is you either have to have a reveal or miss cocktail hour for photos. Both of which were definite deal breakers for us.

FH and I are getting married in his parish and we NEVER go to church. We both just have always dreamed of getting married in a church and that's what our parents and family have always done. I also like the idea of a church wedding b/c we have plenty of time in between to take pictures and we'll be able to enjoy our cocktail hour. I couldn't take pictures before b/c I'm very supersticious and it freaks me out lol.
But you even said, you're not really religious so how much does the sacrament part actually matter?

We are getting married in a church, that was how I always envisioned my wedding and we aren't religious either. I also want that moment of FH seeing me for the first time as I walk down the isle. If you are leaning more towards church but do not like the priest maybe look at a different church, a lot of the non denominational churches will let you customize your ceremony any way you want. Or if you wanted to get married in a specific denomination like the catholic church you can call any church and the priest will meet with you. You may find one that will better match your personality.

We didn't care at first either... but looking at timing and scheduling it made more sense to do a church. We didn't want to miss our cocktail hour and we also did not want to do a reveal so the church was the best option for us. We are not getting married at either of our churches... my parents had just moved so we chose a new church to get married in. This church is GORGEOUS and the priest we met with made us know that we truly made the right choice. Both FH and I walked out of there with the biggest grins on our faces!

I'm getting married at the reception hall. I'm not religious and neither is FH and so I really didn't feel comfortable with the church thing. But I also never had that vision in my head of walking down the aisle at the church, I think my venue is beautiful and I'm excited to walk down the aisle there. I'm walking towards FH which is all I need! I agree the logistics are much easier if you do it at the hall which is a plus and I'm happy we're doing a reveal. I wanna see FH as soon as possible that day and it'll be great to have some time before the ceremony to take pictures so we can enjoy our cocktail hour. And I love that I get to have a personal moment with him when he sees me for the first time and hug him right away. Everyone is different, and it's a really personal decision but those are just my personal feelings for doing it at the hall.

Me and FH aren't religious either but I always envisioned walking down the aisle of a church. It was also important to our families to get married in a church.. It's actually the same church my parents got married in :)

We're not super religious but I always imagined walking down the aisle of my church when getting married. It definitely makes the logistics a bit more tricky for the day but it's doable. Plus I like that the day will be longer this way!

This! FH and I are having a traditional wedding and did not like the idea of the reveal at all. The only thing I do like about having the ceremony at the RH is that more people are in attendance. However, I know the people that mean the most to us will be there.

Ironically, I'm fairly religious and getting married at the RH (interfaith marriage). It's not necessarily easier logistics-wise. Bc FH and I didn't want to miss our cocktail hour, we have to find a different location to take our pictures. Our RH only allows us to get there 1 hour before the ceremony starts and that's not enough time to take pictures since guests will be filing in.
Could you possibly go to a different Church? Maybe one that's closer to your RH to cut down some of the extra time inbetween ceremony and reception?

The latest any of the churches in the area let you do a Mass on Saturday is 1pm.. Cocktail hour starts at 7.. The place said they would do hospitality starting at 6pm, but still its a 5 hour gap

I'm getting married on a Sunday and I have a 2:30 ceremony time at St. Patricks in Bay Shore. When I was meeting with the priest he offered us either 2:30 or 4:00. I know that your venue is Lake Success which is a little far from Bay Shore but your guest would have plenty of time to get from the church to the venue. My venue is in Roselyn which isn't that far from yours. You don't have to be a part of the parish to get married there and it's a stunning church!

I consider myself a semi-religious person, but I do not go to Church regularly, and my FH not at all. Although we 'could' get married in a church we just chose not to. I don't have any fears it will not feel valid or approved by God, but then again I only see the Church as a Building not the core of my faith. Which every decision you make it just needs to feel right for you. Our biggest surprise is when we made this announcement to my family (who are uber religious) my Grandma said 'good church weddings are boring' lol gotta love her.

My Saturday mass starts at 2pm. Usually churches have confession around 4-4:30, so your ceremony/mass, receiving line and pictures all need to be done prior to confession.
I have found that in regards to any wedding planning, when in doubt follow your gut.

We're not religious but FH wanted it to be recognized. We were going to do a church but my family isn't religious at all so I found a non-denominational site that isn't at the reception hall and Father Joe is able to do ceremonies that are recognized outside a church. It all seemed to fall together and it worked out in everyone's best interest!

Even though FH and I aren't particularly religious, I just always envisioned having a church wedding. My parents really wanted that for me, and I do too. I tend to go through phases with church, and my feeling is that I might really regret it one day if I don't get married there.
Our priest is a good friend of mine and everybody likes him, so I know he will make our ceremony special. You can always request a different priest or go to a different parish!

I'm not super religious, but getting married in church is something I always envisioned..I think its beautiful to have that experience. Everyone has their own views on how the envision saying your vows, and whatever decision it might be, it will be the right one! Our church will be at 2pm and cocktail starts at 6:30pm so gives us time to take pictures at the church, at a location the photographer chooses and then some pictures in our venue (I told them I want to be done with pictures by 5:30-6pm) so we can enjoy cocktail hour
