I contacted a Photograhper via E mail and he told me...
My dad recommended a photographer in bklyn so I emailed him and he told me that it's to early to book. WTH?? Kinda pissed me off. He said to go visit him when the wedding date is near. He also told me that I'm kinda early and getting ahead of myself. I didn't appreciate this guy but my dad is recommending him so I dunno what to do.

It is never to early. I booked my photographer more than 2 years before I got married.

I agree with Lisa! It is never too early and that attitude bothers me. When vendors send me away....I am definitely not coming back!!!!

I was told it's too early for flowers....They were rude as well, and I didn't call back.

If he thinks its too early to book, then he has probably never booked that far in advance, which makes me think that he must not be that good. Everything in NY involving wedding planning is so over hyped that people get nervous they'll lose the 'best' vendors and book really far in advance. If he isn't being sought out by brides, he must not be one of the 'best.' Thats my initial reaction...

Considering that you really have to shop around for a photographer, why would you wait until the last minute just to book him?? He just lost himself business. I wouldn't call him back.

I found that a lot of vendors told me the same thing when I first started planning. But he probably doesnt have his rates set for that year yet and is putting you off until he sets his rates. Also a lot of vendors dont want to book more than a year in advance.

I would want to book a photographer at least a year in advance. The good ones get snatched up. When I was looking, 4 of the 10 I was REALLY interested in were booked and that was a year and a half in advance.

I may be a little biased (I planned my wedding in 5 months + 1 day) but I do think that sometimes it is just too early. My brother and SIL had a long engagement and booked a band more than 2 years in advance. By the time the wedding rolled around, there were completely different people in the band and they weren't very good....
It is probably true that the photographer doesn't have his rates set. But he didn't have to be rude about it. I would just caution you against booking too early.

I agree! I don't think it's too early to book your photo. I booked about 1 yr and 4 months before. But we started looking about 1 yr 8 months before.

if he was rude - don't book him.
If you really want to get your photographer booked early, you should look at others.

i got a similar response from my photographer but he wasn't really rude about it. some things like venues (reception and hotel) i wanted to book a year in advance, the other items weren't as pressing IMO. the band was more of a concern for me than a photographer. i think there are more 'good and affordable photographers' over 'good and affordable bands'...

I think booking anything more than 18 months in advance is a bit extreme. You may find a venue you like more, maybe a different photograhper.
