I could just cry... (long)

I could just cry... (long)

I posted a few weeks ago about my FMIL being upset about our wedding being the week before her 60th birthday and her thinking everyone would 'forget' because of it.

I found out not too long after that FSIL, who is in our wedding and did not come to my shower, did not contribute as far as I know, and is bringing an uninvited guest to our wedding, was planning a surprise party for FMIL. She wasn't sure when, but she was hoping for it to be two weeks before or two weeks after the wedding.

Come to find out, she has scheduled it for the Sunday before our wedding.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, except for the simple fact that we are paying for our wedding by ourselves and cannot afford to get her a huge gift one week before the wedding, much less contribute to a party!!!! My parents are helping us as much as they can financially, but FIL's have not lifted a finger. The only thing any of his family has done is attend my shower. They have not contributed to the wedding in any way, financially or otherwise.

Add to the fact that FFIL may not even be coming to the wedding... but I am sure he will be here for the birthday party!

I don't know what to do for FH anymore, I feel so bad for him. He has always felt 'second best' to his sister, he has struggled a lot and we have not been financially stable since we have three kids. We are doing our best, but he loves his parents and they just keep sh*tting on him over and over...

I just don't know what to do...

Awwww, your poor FH! My heart goes out to you both. Families can be so cruel, sometimes. It boggles my mind the things that some people think are perfectly acceptable to do to others.

Hang in there!

I fully understand your predicament! FH also has a sister that he is second too in everything! My heart goes out to you.......

Don't worry, her birthday definetly won't trump your wedding. As for a gift, why don't you give her something meaningful, go on Things Remembered, they have nice stuff that won't break the bank, perhaps if you personalize it there will be more meaning in the gift. Good luck!

Maybe a photo album to be filled with family pictures from the party. Enclose a note telling her that you will take the pics and complete the album after the party?

Try to convince your FH that he does not have to compete with the sister. He may never get the recognition he deserves in his parents' eyes, and that is sad. That's why you and the children were sent to him! .

But don't spend too much energy trying to change things you can't. Best wishes!

I am so sorry to hear about this. I read your post about this and I felt so bad about the situation. People have birthdays every year but you only have your wedding day once! I think your FSIL should have considered this and waited until after the wedding.

All anyone will be talking about on her birthday is her birthday paryt is YOUR wedding, just get her a little something. If she doesn't like it F*CK her!!!!! I know it is so much easier said than done, but don't let it get to you, concentrate on you and FH and your wedding!!!
