My dream would just be to pack it all up and buy a ranch- maybe I should raise alpacas!

We are going to Savannah this summer for a wedding- I'm seriously going to check it out- some friends of mine live down there & love it.

But of course, no matter where you live you still have to keep in mind everything is relative and you have to pinch and save.

I know because everyone is buying it seems we all should be - but it isn't for everyone and there is nothing wrong with renting.

While I do agree it may be very expensive to live in LI and other parts of the TriState area, for some people it is worth it. I have to say, I do LOVE coming home to my waterfront apartment with a huge backyard filled with grass and trees and scenic ponds and watching the swans and sailboats go by my window. I have gotten used to the train rides to and from work, which are one hour each way. I use that time to catch up on my reading and sleeping, and am always more relaxed than DH who has a 30 minute drive home in rush hour traffic. I think you really do get what you pay for here. The proximity to NYC, as well as beautiful Eastern LI cannot be beat. My point is, I think it is all in your outlook, and since I can't single-handedly drive down real-estate or commuting prices, I might as well look on the good side!

I guess it's all about perceptions.. for you the benefits outway the risks/negative attributes. Which is great for you.

For me- and some others- they don't.

I do possibly want to live near or in a big city- and at that point I'll have to deal with real estate.

But alas, that's very far off- I will not be buying until i'm done with my MBA- which is at least another 2 years.

Hopefully by then, the market will go down!

If it does- that's cool.

I'm not worrying about it really.

Whatever happens, happens- in the meantime I'm saving money and lovin' life!

Sage- don't get me wrong, i'd love to live out there- but Ideally I wouldn't want to do the schlep into the city from there...

unless I could do it part time & work from home the other times or work somewhere in NJ...

Ideally I just want to own my own store somewhere.

I totally see what you are saying, and even though my parents did it - I still question whether I could....It is a long commute!!!

I just want to have my antique store

that would be ideal for me...

Just looked it up on the MLS, it's in Victory Garden. I don't think you want to live there anyway!

where's Victory Garden? Is it a bad area? (meaning dangerous or something?)
