I didn't have an engagment party...did I miss out?

We didn't have one, basically to save money. So now I'm thinking I missed out. If you don't mind how much did yours cost....do you think I made the wrong choice? It seems like it would have been really great to have.

My parents threw ours for us, and I think it was about $4000 for 110 people in a restaurant.

Don't worry. I didn't have one either. We wanted to have a BBQ over the summer just for the families to meet but it didn't happen. I'm totally fine with the fact that we didn't have one. If you really want one then maybe you should. You can do something small.

I didn't have one either. I didn't want to spend the money and my parents were going to throw us one, but my aunt talked them out of it. Her theory was if people have to buy gifts for several different wedding celebration parties, they're going to give less and less. SO, I didn't have one.. I personally consider them bad luck. I have gone to 2 where the couple broke up before the wedding (and never gave any gifts back) and 2 where the bride wound up preggers before the wedding, and the weddings never happened!

I won't be having one either. I don't think you missed out. The important people are happy for you and those who want will give engagement gifts... but I don't think an engagement party is necessary. I've never known anyone personally who had anything more formal than immediate family and close friends at the house...

That's not too bad I guess, especailly since they threw it for you. But on our budget it would have been alittle hard.

I did not have one either. I did not miss out at all. Actually I thougth it would have been another thing to add to the planning list.

We are not having one since we are already on a tight budget as it is. We figured it was just one more expense thats we could do without. Instead we are going to go out to dinner with his parents and mine and our siblings. We have to do this twice since my parents are re-married. My dad and step mom still haven't met his parents and it's been four years!!! Although I did feel a little sad at missing out at an engagement party at first, people still were kind enough to come by to congratulate us and did send us cards and gifts.

we didn't have one either. I think we kinda missed out, but it's no big deal. It would have been nice to get some money, but it's not worth what it would have cost to plan and have the party. I am just happy to have those that I love around me while we plan and at the wedding itself

We weren't planning on haveing one, but his parents threw a surprise eparty for me in their backyard. It was all last minute, his sisters were in from out of state so they got to see old friends and family which was nice. So if you did something small at someone's house, I think it wouldn't cost more than a few hundred for food.

our was about $1,700. we only had 50 close family and friends. other wise it turns into another wedding. we got a lot of great gifts and money to help us pay for the wedding though.

I didn't have one either, due to cost and circumstances.

You're not missing out. You'll have your bridal shower and your wedding to celebrate with your family and friends and get the money and gifts from them.

Sometimes people see an engagement party as another reason for the bride and groom to be to get more money or gifts - so this gives your guests a bit of a breather.

I'm not having one either. FH and I have been together for 7 years. 5 of those we've been living together, so we already know all of each others family and friends. Plus because we already live together, we would have to shell out the $ for it, on top of the $ for the wedding, so it's not practical for us. Don't worry, I don't think you are missing out!

I didnt have one either. We just went out to dinner with both sets of parents and our siblings. That was all I wanted.

we had one - my parents paid for half of it and we paid the other half - personally i think i would have been a little upset if we didnt have one but its a personal choice.
