We are getting married at the Crescent, I am from NYC, my fh is from LI. Most of our guests are from LI. I wanted to get married at the same place my parents got married( In Point Lookout L.I.) My fh just thinks it is too far away (from ceremony to reception).I still live in NYC. We can get married on site. Which is fine with me cause it is beautiful! But I am in a unique situation! My mother passed away in 99' so I want to do a tribute to her ( my mother was born and bred on LI) But I want to please my guests at the same time! I am just totally confused!

its a one time opportunity so if you want to go to pt lookout then go - i am sure once they find out why you choose their all the guests will understand and see how speical it is....one thing i have learned while planning is that you never please everyone so do whatever will make you and fh most happy...
good luck and let us know what you choose
ps - i am getting married at the church i grew up in in Queens and having my reception out in nassau - fh's 'ny' family is from suffolk but understnad why we are doing it in queens....

I think its a great idea. Don't worry about the distance. Your guests will understand and if they don't, who cares. Its your wedding, your special day and you have to do what makes you happy. The people who really matter will come anyway.

I agree w/ pschica.... if this is something you want to do, then your guests will understand.
I am also getting married in Queens, even though we are from Nassau, and having the reception in Suffolk. Trust me, people make accommodations for a wedding

Kathleen,
WIll you regret it if you do not go to Pt. Lookout?? If so, DEFINITELY GO FOR IT!! ITs sucha special day and a special way to honor your mom....Do what makes you happiest....Not what you think your guests will like....
If they want to go to your wedding, they will go, no matter where it is...FH is from NJ, I am from LI...(we both live in RHode ISland) and I love Long ISland and would not have my wedding any other place...but FH mom alwyas seems to keep asking, its in Long Island, A sunday Night?? I do not know who will coem...etc..etc....Well, the way FH and I feeel is if they cannot make the trip, then they don;t care to be there anyways..not going to change for anyone...doing what makes us Happy!!

Thank you ladies so much! I am the type that definitely thinks of 'the sentimental value' but I have to please so many other people at my wedding that just don't understand! (Many of our guests do not want to travel more than 20 minutes if they have to!) It is a weird situation! But I am glad I am not alone with how I feel!

From your profile, it looks like your wedding is the week after labor day. The traffic problem (if that is the issue) should be nearly non-existent, and if they are staying in the same place all day, it is actually more convenient for them.
Trust me, we all have others to please on our big day, but if this is important enough for you to post about, then maybe showing these guests the positive side of doing it your way maybe you can all be happy.

Yes it is Labor day weekend! That was my fh main concern! He is actually wonderful with whatever I want to do! But that is my main concern! I am constantly worried about everyone else's priorities!

What if you made a 'weekend' out of it... or an overnighter maybe? There are lots of places around there to stay.

I agree with Tammy --when planning your wedding.. I wouldnt worry about travel time.. your guest have to only do it for one day.

Point Lookout Church (RC) is beautiful, and Fr. Callan is a wonderful man.

I would definately go to where your mom got married..what a beautiful thing!! I have been to several weddings where the chapel is a ways away from the reception..I didnt even think twice about it...we had time to kill..we found a bar and it was GREAT!!! Do what makes YOU happy..dont settle..your guests willmost definately understand!
