I sent my mom the picture of our final centerpiece we just approved. My mom made a comment about people taking the centerpieces. I told her that the vases are not ours but rather rented from the florist. She's telling me I should be concerned...
This is like a 4' centerpiece... would anyone actually attempt taking such a thing?!?!? I do recall weddings where an announcement was made that people can take the centerpiece, but those are significantly smaller and not in a giant vase!!!
Is my mom just losing it or should this be a concern?
Re: I don't know if I should laugh or be worried!!!!
many people took mine and they were tall, however they had a piece that came out of the vase so the vase stayed... my florist made sure they wouldnt take their vases

As crazy as this sounds, people do take them home. A friend of mine was going to give me her vases for my wedding. They were so cool looking but when the wedding was done, everyone walked out with them I was so mad....

People usually take the centerpieces. You can have the DJ announce that they can take the flowers but not the vases...

Ha my vases are rented and my mom made the same comment. My response was that the vases are filled with water who would take them. I was told to tell the DJ not to announce to take the centerpieces. Also, you can tell the maitre d' so he can make sure people don't take them.
Also, I like your centerpiece.

I was actually just at a wedding where they DJ made an announcement after the first dance stating you can take the centerpiece but NOT the vase (the flowers were in a green thing that sat on top of the vase and were not actually IN the vase)...
People took my centerpieces home and they were in a HUGE vase just like yours.

Plse do not worry. I have the same situation since my cp is very very tall and heavy. We're not making announcments but there will be staff to make sure no one takes it.

LOL I went to BeLissa's wedding in May and her CP's were too big to take so everyone left them...and her vases weren't rented.

Yes people take them all the time, just warn the guest that they cannot take the vase home.

OMG... wouldn't water be dripping ALL OVER THE PLACE if people tried to take them out of the vase? And since the vase is massive wouldn't the chances of it tipping over be huge.
I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that people would want to deal with these massive WET flowers!!

I had a similar CP for my wedding, and the staff was very quick to take all the CP off the table after the last song. They lined them up along the wall and handed the flowers out to people. One person tried to take a vase and my MD stopped them.
If you are still concerned, go over this with your MD and I am sure they wont let people take them.

I was worried about this too... My florist knows that they take anything not nailed down and didn't want to have to slam me with a bill for the vases (I was initially looking to do something similar to yours) We reworked the cp's so that the vase is different and the flowers sit on top of the vase, towards the end of the night, the wait staff will go around and take the flowers off of the vases and put the flowers on the table, they will then put the vases in storage for the florist to pick up during the week. I would consider purchasing your own vases and having the florist use the ones you buy if you dom't want to get an additional bill at the end or you don't want to change the style. Pics of my new cp's are in my album so you can see what I mean.

I actually had someone literally roll up the table cloth (centerpeices, stones, and candles inside) and try to walk out. On the way out, she walked over and picked up my monogramed cake toppers! Who does that!?
Thank goodness my MOH saw her. Dont underestimate anybody.
I saw little cards before on tables with a cute little poem stating not to take the centerpeices :o)

Glen Island knows how to handle this, they will hand out clear plastic bags for anyone who wishes to take the flowers home. They did this at my brother's wedding at the Fountainhead (same owners at GIHC)
PS....the CPs are gorgeous!

My mom and I are concerned about the same thing so I actually bought my own vases. My florist was going to charge me a lot of money for them so I found them online for cheaper. He was actually surprised since I got a better price then he gets from his supplier. People will take anything not nailed down, this way I won’t get charged.

Your centerpiece is beautiful!!
People always take the flowers... sometimes they can take the whole centerpiece or sometimes just the flowers if the vases are rented... but usually when they take just the flowers, the flowers are in an arrangement placed on the vase, not actually in the vase... those flowers can easily be taken..... in your case though, the flowers are in the vase so they wouldn't be able to take them.... People usually expect to take the flowers and since yours aare in the vases, they may assume that they can take the whole thing....definitely have the DJ make an announcement or people WILL assume they can take them and walk out with the vases... But you can't really tell them to just take the flowers because that would be a mess!!
