I really want to have an e-party. Not so much for gifts, but first, I love parties, esp. when they're in my honor . I also think it would be a good chance for both of our extended families to meet before the wedding.
Unfortunatly, we don't really have a budget that includes an e-party. We wouldn't be able to keep the guest list small as we both have large extended families.
How much is your eparty costing you?
Is it tacky to have a summer/back yard e-party? We were thinking doing that and having everyone bring a dish (instead of gift). But, I'm afraid it will be tacky. Is there anyway to have a 'cheap' but not tacky e-party?

I've been to so many backyard e-parties theyre just as fun as fancy ones. and a lot cheaper bc you can make your own food. Go for it!

I absolutely wanted a backyard affair - but my mom wanted otherwise, so she won!

backyard party sounds great! you could do a BBQ or get some platters of italian food from a fav restaurant, it doesn't have to be pricey. Costco has a lot of great appetizers, etc.

Be careful with the potluck aspect, some people might go if they have to bring a gift and bring food. You know your guests better than we do. If you wanted to have a potluck a fun way might be to ask guests to help you put together a newlywed cookbook by bringing their favorite dish and the recipe and then you can take a pic of you, them, and their dish at your party and either put it on the back of the card or on the front if you make large pages in a binder. It could be a really cute and different idea that guests might really like. You could even photocopy it after your party and send everyone a copy with their thank you.

Thats a really cute idea!! I might just use it- thanks!! If we decide to do the potluck we would also include a request for no gifts. I dont expect gifts either way, I just want our families to celebrate together.

I think a backyard e-party is a great idea, especially with summer coming up. I don't think that it will take anything away from it having it in a backyard, its a great way to hang out outside and have everyone get to know each other.
