I was talking to a co-worker about 1 of my bosses. I know he is divorced but we are not sure if he is dating anyone seriously. So I was asking her if she thinks I should invite him with a guest. She told me protocal is that we should invite everyone with a guest. I never heard that. So now that puts me in a postion with her. She lost her husband last year and I know she hasnt dated anyone and I think she expects me to invite her with a guest. I wasnt planning on inviting her with a guest. I dont want her to bring her cousin or BFF just to bring someone. What do I do?? What would you do???

Re: I dont know what to do
We're only inviting people we know are in a relationship with a guest. We are already having a larger wedding than we wanted (up to 232 invited!), and we don't want people bringing random friends. Some of my older relatives are getting 'and guest,' the bridal party and anyone in a serious relationship.
I say do what you want and what is in your budget.

Re: I dont know what to do
Well since you still have a bit of a ways to go before you send out your invites, I'd honestly and just wait and see where they are in terms of relationships when that time comes.
Your boss might start dating someone soon and may be in a serious relationship by the time you're ready to send out your invites. Personally however, anyone that's recently (within the past year or two) widowed, I'm not inviting with a date.

Re: I dont know what to do
I personally believe you should invite any single adult with a guest.... pretty much 18 and older. I all think it is kinda rude when people bring a friend or someone with them as their guest, i find that innapropriate, but its the risk you must take! i have been insulted many times when i was single not being invited with a guest... and i have been invited with a guest when i was single too and have gone alone every time... but not everyone thinks that way!

Re: I dont know what to do
as it stands everyone over the age of 18 is currently invited with a guest with the exception of the groomsmen. as of today none of them are dating or even seeing anyone. however, if that changes they will also be invited with a guest. & if we get too many no’s they will be given the option to bring a date.

We are picking and choosing who to invite with 'and guest'. If they are dating someone, then they will be invited with a guest. If they do not know anyone else, then they will be invited with a guest.
I think the rule that you HAVE to invite someone w/ a guest is really going through some changes, and I think it's perfectly acceptable to go either way on it.

ITA. Everyone over 18 will be getting a plus one whether we expect them to bring someone or not. I don't mind when someone brings a friend, though I understand you are eating and drinking on my dime, but like FutureCap said, that's the risk you take.

It's not mandatory that everyone over 18 be invited with a guest. Do what you feel like doing. HTH

Re: I dont know what to do
i know its early- but i seem to stress over the dumbest things. Actually it will only be 3 extra people if I invite work people with guests that arent married but then it screws up my seating. I know that they all will be coming and I dont want a table of 4
I know I am stressing before I have to. I should just wait and see.

Do what you think is best for your budget. As for me everyone over 18 is getting a plus. If I have to spend time with my crazy family I am letting friends and co-workers have a guest.

We're inviting everyone with a guest. I personally feel bad inviting someone alone and w/o a guest and they will probably come alone anyway if they aren't dating anyone.

Re: I dont know what to do
hmm...
One one hand it's your Boss and just to keep them on my good side I would suck it up and invite with guest. But then if you do that you have to invite your co-worker with guest. And then if you do that then you have to do that with all of your co-workers that your inviting. But, considering she just lost her husband a year ago she might get emotional at the wedding and I would want someone with her.
Imo, i would invite her and boss with guest. I think they have special circumstances.

Re: I dont know what to do
IF I invite my co-workers they are getting & guest bc I don't know if one of my VP's dating anyone seriously and the 6 others are. But everyone else is only getting an & guest if they are in a serious relationship.

Re: I dont know what to do
I would invite them both with a guest.
I am in a slightly similar situation and I am going to do the same. They might both decide not to bring anyone and go with each other.

Re: I dont know what to do
It's up to you. You should just do what you think is best for you and FH. I'm inviting everyone 21 and older with a guest, not 18. My guest list is already 325, which is more than we wanted, but how do I know if uncle so-and-so on FH's side who he hasn't seen in 10 years is in a serious relationship???? SO everyone over 21 gets a guest.... JMO
