I don't like it !!!

I don't like it !!!

I went with my mom today to buy her dress. She says that if the you are the brides mom then you have to wear pink and if you are the grooms mom you wear blue. She picked a pink dress to wear and I don't like it. I think it is too girly for some reason. I am thinking that I may have her go with me back to the store to change at least the color. What do you ladies think? Should I have her change it or just leave her and have her feel comfortable with what she picked.

That's a rough one. I'd say you should let her have what she's comfortable in, but then again, it's your wedding and you should have what you want...

Where did your mom get the idea that she has to wear pink? I think she gets to pick first and then the groom's mother picks something complementary (not matching, but just something that won't clash). Also her dress shouldn't clash with your BM's dresses I think. See if you can get your mom to wear something in a champagne color--it usually has just a tiny hint of pink but it's not too girly. Good luck !

Where did she hear that about the color thing for MOB and MOG - my mom and MIL are both wearing similar colors by coincedence (Pale green/celedon). Do you like the dress? Maybe tell her how great the dress looks but that there are other colors that are more flattering on her...

hey blue/pink is new to me. If your Mom is comfortable with the dress, I would leave her alone.

Sorry to hear that I never heard of the pink/blue thing either. If it is bothering you that much have a heart to heart with her or otherwise let her wear it if she is comfortable in it....except if it is hot pink!

Your mom is not part of the bridal party so she can wear whatever she wants. I never heard of that pink/blue rule however. If she likes the dress, leave her alone.

Neither have I. If you're completely honest, and have a great relationship with her, you could subtly express that you don't like it. And if she decides to change it or not, you stand by her decision.

Good luck!

I have never heard of the pink/blue thing but I do think it is cute. I would leave her alone seriously. My mom keeps asking me 'Well do you like it?' I just tell her 'Whatever you want, you have to wear it and buy it, not me'.
I know she has the best interest at heart by asking me but if I shot down a dress she really loved, she would be thinking about that 'perfect' dress all night and all the time leading up to it and I wouldn't want that for anyone, especially not the woman who gave birth to me! I would lay low with it. If she asks you if you like it, or what you think...I would simply say 'It is nice'. If you want to mention the color then so be it, I just wouldn't.
Good Luck!!!

My FMIL told me about that color thing and I gave her a look! Turns out my mother got a dusty rose dress and it's beautiful. Maybe she can have the color of the dress toned down?

I think that she should wear what she is comfortable in but she should also take your feelings into consideration. I have never heard that there are colors the mothers should wear except that years ago mothers would typically wear shade of white to complement the bride, but now a days, there are no rules.

I never heard that the mob wears pink and mog wears blue. I thought it was mob buys dress first and then mog picks out hers. They could coordinate colors, but it's not necessary. maybe explain that to her and then see if she is absolutely set on pink. if she is, i would choose your battles, if not then maybe she will change the color.

I've never heard of the Pink/Blue thing either.

Maybe you can get her to change the color but keep the dress? Just be subtle and gentle about it.

I don't know where your mom got the idea 'the brides mom wears pink, the grooms mom, blue......' - but regardless, if you couldn't talk her out of it - leave it alone. -
I am tired of listening to brides say 'it's MY day' - (NOT that i'm saying YOU are doing that !!! ) but so many people say well it's MY wedding and YOU have to do what I decide. - No, i'm sorry, if I absolutely HATED my mom's dress, i'd tell her, but she's wearing it. -
If your mom hated your wedding gown and you obviously LOVE it, would you change it ? Of course not !! -
Try to convince her to change the color, but if she's really happy with it, let her feel beautiful on your wedding day, she's your mom !!

Hoenstly, I'd tell her, but I wouldn't ask her to change it.

'I'd say, I'm not crazy about the color actually. I've asked around & most people agree that nowawadys the mother of the bride doesn't have to wear pink, you can wear whatever you want, but if you like this one, go for it.'

Re: I don't like it !!!

thank you ladies for the input, I like the style of the dress, I just don't like the color. I think that when you reach a certain age that pink is not your color. I will check the store tomorrow and see if they have diff colors or if it coud be ordered for me. The colors of my wedding are wine and champagne. And then here she would come with this baby pink, FH mom is wearing something like turquoise. So I am working on it. I spoke to her about it today.
