I would recomend it only to avoid getting random presents that you don't like.

Re: I don't want a Registry
I would recommend doing some kind of registry to avoid getting stuff you really don't want/need. SOme friends of mine lived together for years before they were married and really had everything they needed. They had a 'gift card' shower and it was very well received. They got lots of gift cards to places like HOme depot and lowes for future home improvements. Just a thought. HTH!!!

I agree. Register at one store and for the Necessities....pots-n-pans, towels, bedding, luggage -- things like that.
And if you want, register at one of those locations where you can register for your Honeymoon.
I was going to suggest this, too.

we really don't want to have a registry either but we are going to because it is what people are expecting us to do so we are just registering for a handful of items at a couple of different places

you can do a honey moon registry & there are even some banks that will allow you to 'register there' for a mortgage...

Re: I don't want a Registry
Register, for at least the shower.
In the NY area, I don't think people typically give gifts for the wedding anyway (my friends didn't get gifts - and talking to a guy I know here (whose wife is from LI (they got married on LI) - he said they got a mix of gifts/cash - with 90% of the gifts coming from his family from MN)
