So I'm sitting here at my desk with my morning coffee.... Should I force myself to give it up? Or is it OK if I don't have any other caffene during the day?

Re: I drink one medium cup of coffee a day...
I was wondering the same thing. I don't know how I am going to give up my caffeine. I NEED it in the morning to survive the day

I did give it up - I switched to de-caf - and really I don't know the difference. I did not however give up chocolate, and that has caffiene in it.

They say one or two cups of coffee won't hurt you. Which is a good thing because I could never give up my coffee. I only drink 2 cups a day, but I could cut down to one.
I have to stop eating chocolate though.

Re: I drink one medium cup of coffee a day...
I was just going to post this question today!!
I only drink my one cup in the morning but I really konw that I should give it up
But this morning I got decaf and I'm trying to get myself used to it! (though I am soooo sleepy .. but I think that is psychological)

I am keeping my 1 small cup in the morning...I can't give it up. But if/when I get PG I will probably switch and have 1/2 decaf and 1/2 regular instead. I don't drink any soda and I dont eat chocolate.
I did give up iced tea though and I miss it

MANY women giveit up totally, but I've read that you can have the equivalent of a 12 oz beverage with caffeine

I have definitely limited my caffiene intake. I didn't drink much coffee early in my pregnancy when the baby was developing, but I've noticed I drink it a little more often maybe once or twice a week. My doctor said it was OK to have 1-2 cups a day.

My doctor said the same thing. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I do have at least one cup a day--sometimes two if the mood strikes. I'm at 19 weeks now, and no ill effects.

You do NOT have to give up coffee when you get PG. If you consume more than 6 cups (or the equivalent in milligrams of caffeine from other sources such as chocolate and sodas) a day, you have *slight* increased risk of miscarriage.
I still have my one cup of coffee per day and Dr is FINE with that. Very rarely, I'll have 2 cups and then I'll make the 2nd a decaf. The amount of caffeine in chocolate is almost negligible - unless you live on it of course.

Re: I drink one medium cup of coffee a day...
I am a coffee addict. Its my favorite drink and right now I drink about 3 16ozs a day, sometimes more. Im scared to death of quitting, I will be so sick from withdrawels.
I will feel weird not cutting down of course, but I may have one cup a day, even the 16 oz since I do not like Soda so I know I will nto be having any other heavy caffine in my drinks.
My first pg, I asked the dr, and she said they have to warn you because they have no evidence of exactly HOW much caffenine is or should be your limit. She said to me though that the amount of Caffeine PROVEN to have a bad direct affect on a newborn is the equivalent of 24 cups of coffee a day for a long period of time, and un godly amounts of soda. That made me feel better. She said the effect of 'low ' amounts of caffenine have truly never been studied, hence the advice to lower if not skip it.
I will do my best, but also remember, stress of withdrawel , anykind, caffenine, cigerrettes etc is very harmful to a baby due to the way your blood and blood pressure re-acts.
My obgyn even advises smoking patients how to quit ( time wise) to reduce stress.
So heavy coffee drinkers should wean themselves off of it, not try to stop cold turkey.
