I guess you gals are the only people I can talk to.
Am I the only person who dosent have a Best friend, or alot of girlfriends? I dont even know if I can have a bridal party, because I have too many sisters, and cant ask them all, but dont have enough friends. Im really sad about this. I feel like such a jerk.

Re: I feel like such a loser
I'm so sorry you're feeling that way, but you are definitely NOT a jerk or a loser. We all go through phases where we are closer (or not at all) with different friends. I like the other suggestion--maybe you can just choose your MOH and keep it simple. It's your wedding--do what is going to make YOU feel happy and good!

Re: I feel like such a loser
Oh wow, I was just talking about this to someone a few days ago. 90% of my friends are guys, and I literally have like 3 or 4 girlfriends. But I'm seriously thinking of asking two of my best guy friends to be in my wedding, standing up for me on my side. My fiance isn't too keen on the idea (he is very traditional), but he knows how much they mean to me, so hopefully he'll change his mind. But if I were you, I wouldn't worry about not having too many girlfriends-- I find that guys are SO much easier to get along with most of the time, anyway!

Re: I feel like such a loser
You are certainly NOT a loser. Look at it this way, you're probably better off not having to choose between friends, because I've seen friendships break up over not being asked to be in a bridal party. It's perfectly ok to have a small bridal party. I am only having 3 girls, one is my sister in law & two are friends. How many sisters do you have? More than five or six? I'd think that 5 or 6 not too big, but if you have more than that, why not just choose three that are closest to you & have the others help in other ways? Or have one friend & one sister? And as another poster mentioned, it's perfectly ok to have just a maid/matron of honor & best man. My FI initially wanted us to do that. Nothing wrong w/ it. Anything you want is fine, nobody should tell you otherwise. Don't feel sad, be happy that you are marrying someone special. Good luck & don't feel down!!

Re: I feel like such a loser
Oh if youre a loser than I am too. I told my fiance he had to change the number of groomsman. My fiance said he could get 45 groomsman if I wanted... I said no honey - I want to lower your #. I only have 3 - 4 people I would like in my wedding and they are all family! I have no friends. I have my fiance :)
A girl at work and I had this discussion today. She had the same problem... Guess what she did...
Matched up every bridesmaid with 2 groomsman! She even had 2 ring bearers with the flower girl! I think thats a great idea! now I dont have to make my hubby shorten his list and I dont have to add anyone I dont want :)!!!

How many sisters do you have? I like the idea about the 2 to 1 ratio for boys and girls.

Re: I feel like such a loser
All of you girls just brought a tear to my eye. I moved out to LI about 5 years ago from Queens. I was a Manhattan Party girl til I met Rob. Then I became a homebody who loved spending time at home, with him. I still have girlfriends, but none that I consider close enough to be in my bridal party. I dont have many close girlfriends at all. I dont even know who I will have as my MOH. I have a friend Nicole who I lost touch with, and always loved her like a sister and even when we were super close, I always said to myself she would be my MOH. Now that we arent close, I cant een ask her.
But, you girls made me feel alot better. Thank you...:) I'll figure this one out.

Re: I feel like such a loser
I have a big bridal party made up of mostly family (whole BP is 23 people - 9 kids 14 adults) 2 of the girls are my friends. I feel like such a loser sometimes too because my friends from work and family members I haven't seen are probably going to be thinking 'where are her friends?' But then I think about it and am happy to have the big family bridal party and my 1 best and 1 close friend. There are a few people I am sure we could have done without having now in retrospect, but overall I am so happy with the decision I have made! You are not alone and this is all about you and FH- don't worry!

Re: I feel like such a loser
I am so glad you started this topic. Me and FH were talking about this last night. Through the years I have realized 2 things.
1) very difficult to find a good hearted person nowadays. (who know how to listen as much as they talk)
2) as you get older...your standards are raised. (Someone who accompanies you to the mall is not your BF...someone who is always there for you is)
I am in the same situation as you. And I have realized that I will not add people in my Bridal Party just for the sake of having enough people. To me that is just crazy. I have FH and in all honesty he is all I need (that's why I am commiting to him for the rest of my life). Don't lose sight of what is important. There is only one girl in my life who I can say I would be honored if she is in my bridal party. I don't see her much or even talk to her everyday. But she is a great person. And she accepted my invitation. I say call your friend Nicole you might think it's weird to ask her but you won't regret asking her. Good Luck to you and all the LIW brides.

Re: I feel like such a loser
Hi,
I was in the same boat. My FI and I got engaged 2 and a half weeks ago and I was depressed about the bridal party issue. Of course my FI has too many people and had to narrow it down.
I do have a best friend and that's about it. She will be my MOH. And I am also having my brother's girlfriend (I told him them better not break up before the wedding) I don't really keep in contact with any friends from HS or from college so I started to get upset about that too. Oh and my cousin was in the wedding party but decided to back out of my wedding on Christmas day infront of my family. Nice right?
But little by little it came together...so now its my MOH, my brother's g-friend ,my FI's sister and his cousin, and then I asked one of my other cousin's who I am not really that close with but she was so excited and honored.
The bridal party still won't be even I have 5 and he has six...but I am not choosing someone else just for the sake of making it even. I feel that I have a wonderful group of girls that I am proud to have stand up for me.

Re: I feel like such a loser
I had 3 BMs and DH had 6GM. We had 2 guys for every girl...I thought it would look strange, but it really had a classy effect.
Most of the BP was married, so the first dance wasn't awkward...everyone in the BP had someone to dance with.

Re: I feel like such a loser
Kristen, you are not a looser!!!! Its just a fact of life, once people leave the school environmnet, weather its high school or college, they loose site of their old friends, and than, its not so easy to make new ones, in the work environemnt.
Well, if you are a looser, than I am right there with you! I don't have a best friend either. Honestly, best friends just loose their real meaning once leaving college. My MOH is my cousin.
I completely know how you feel, and all I can say is, don't feel bad. Its not you! Its funny, when I first went on this site, I wrote the same post! I felt the same way. But, along the two year planning process, and the wonderful site, I came to realize thats life.
Another thing I did, is made it a point to have and keep friends. To be honest, that was the best thing I did in a while. I made it a concious effort to stay in touch, to call, to hang out. Because if I don't, and they don't, that is how I loose friends.
You can see how personal this topic is to me. I completely feel what you are saying. But I just wanted to add, your sisters, are all the friends you need. Sometimes, sisters are the best and truest friends you can have.
