I feel really stupid...but how do you put the invitations together?

I feel really stupid...but how do you put the invitations together?

I was just throwing the invitation and reply cards in the envelope just to take to the post office to get the weight, when it dawned on me...how is this supposed to go?

Again, I feel silly, but...does only the invitation go in the inside envelope? Does the reply card go inside the reply envelope or do they stay separate? What is the little piece of tissue paper for and is it really necessary?

I think everything goes in the invitation...which then goes into the envelope? But I think the rsvp card gets placed outside the rsvp envelope, but the flap of the envelope closes over the card....does that make sense?

i was shown to pur the respone card and the responce envelope together..not in the envelope just place the response card under the flap of the envelope....then the reception card goes behind that....they are then placed Behind the invitation itself and placed in the envelope...........hope that made sense

Emily Post's Etiquette, 17th ed., 2004 (most recent version), pp. 645:

'Whether an inner envelope is used or not, the invitation is inserted faceup with its folded or left edge to the bottom of the envelope.

'Inner envelope is inserted into an outer envelope with its bottom side down so that the names on the inner envelope are visible when removed. The flap of the inner envelope is not sealed.

'When the invitation is not folded or has a single fold, enclosures are placed on top of the invitation so that the printed sides face the envelope flap.

'If the invitation is folded twice, enclosures are placed inside the fold with their printed sides up.

'Enclosure cards are stacked in order of size, with large card (reception or ceremony cards) directly on the invitation--over the tissue if you use one. Smaller cards are then layered. All cards are placed face up. The reply card is slipped under the flap of its envelope, so the card face is visble and the addressed side of the envelope is down.'

I read somewhere else that the tissue comes from the days when ink might actually be smudged. Post implies above that it's optional. If it's there, IMHO you may as well leave it if it's going to be more trouble to remove it. GL!

But do all of the things go on the 'inside envelope' which then goes into the regular envelope?

FTR, it's not necessary to pay for calligraphy. Your own handwriting is fine.

i hear ya im doing labels and is anyone doesnt like it...oh well!! lol

you mean the didn't have an instructional card?

That's weird.

Most invites have a card that tells you to package them. Go the the website!

The woman I got my invitations from said that the response card actually goes IN the response card envelope. Has anyone ever heard of or done this?

I wasn't sure of that so I posted here a few weeks ago and everyone told me that they should be separate, so thats what I am doing. outside the envelope with the flap over it so they know they go together
