i finally did my bridal registery!! : )

hey ladies, so this past saturday afternoon i went with my mom and sister in law (MOH) and did my registery and bed bath & beyond and since we spent like 6 hours just there alone, i couldnt get myself to go to macys after that - lol. so next saturday we will be going to macys and finishing up the rest of my registery there. basically i registered for towels, bath set accessories, rugs, kitchen accessories, the pots & pans set, all cooking stuff and kitchen stuff at bed bath & beyond. and than at macys i will do the more expensive fancy stuff, like the china, table settings, the cups and stuff, and the applicances and maybe more bath stuff... but anyway, i had a question about this registery thing, actually 2 questions - hehe!

on saturday i registered for a set of a really nice fancy knife block set that comes with knives and all, and than another everyday set of knives to match withh the set of fancy expensive utensils tableware (the set of forks, spoons, etc...) i was told after this though that no one will buy me the knives at all because they say its bad luck to buy a bride knives. is this true!? has anyone heard this before? another question,,, the set of tableware (the utensil set) i got is pretty expensive, like 350 bucks for 8 people, do you guys think that is too silly and expensive for forks and spoons!? i really like this sit and fell in love with it, but i dunno if its worth it and if anyone will even purchase this and if this is a waste to have on my registery!?

also... how many sets should you go for when registering for these kind of things, and for like cups and the china setting? for 8 or 12 people? im clueless about this part, lol!

im still not sure if im gonna register for fancy expensive china or just get a nice casual set, where i can than pick 2 different styles prolly?

Congrats on doing your registry! We finally did ours last weekend.

As for the knives, the old wives tale says that never give knives as a gift or it will cut apart the frienship.

The say if you are given a present of a knife, give a coin in return to avoid 'cutting' the friendship.

Interesting stuff.

i was told after this though that no one will buy me the knives at all because they say its bad luck to buy a bride knives. is this true!? has anyone heard this before?

PEOPLE WILL BUY YOU KNIFES WHETHER THEY THINK ITS BAD LUCK OR NOT... THEY SAY YOUR SUPPOSSED TO GIVE THE PERSON A PENNY SO ITS LIKE YOU PAID FOR IT... MY AUNT BOUGHT US OUR KNIFES AND I DIDNT REMEM TO DO THE PENNY THING... IT DOESNT MATTER, ITS ALL SUPERSTITIONS...

another question,,, the set of tableware (the utensil set) i got is pretty expensive, like 350 bucks for 8 people, do you guys think that is too silly and expensive for forks and spoons!? i really like this sit and fell in love with it, but i dunno if its worth it and if anyone will even purchase this and if this is a waste to have on my registery!?

IMO, $350 IS DEF TOO MUCH TO SPEND ON JUST UTENSILS... MINE WERE $60 I THINK... I LOVE THEM... JUST THINK HOW MANY OTHER THINGS ON YOUR REG PEOPLE WILL BUY YOU BC THEY WONT HAVE TO CHIP IN FOR THIS ONE GIFT

also... how many sets should you go for when registering for these kind of things, and for like cups and the china setting? for 8 or 12 people? im clueless about this part, lol!

I REGISTERED FOR 8 PIECE SETTINGS FOR EVERYTHING... SOME PEOPLE DO 12... I DIDNT THINK IT WAS THAT NECESSARY ESP SINCE WE'LL PROB HARDLY ENTERTAIN AND DONT HAVE A TON OF FAM AS IT IS

im still not sure if im gonna register for fancy expensive china or just get a nice casual set, where i can than pick 2 different styles prolly?

Re: i finally did my bridal registery!! : )

Thanks so much ladies. Keep the feedback on this coming, hehe! :)

PS: So I think i'm better off taking those expensive utensils out of my registery right? Because I honestly did think the same, who is going to want to spend 300 bucks on this!? I don't even think I am going to register at Macy's on saturday for expensive fancy china ware (place setting). I think i'm going to pick like 2 different casual settings and maybe do 12 peice (for 12 people) considering we have a big family and we might need it sooner or later so why not just do 12 now. And i'll just register for casual everyday forks/spoons/knives maybe!? Hmm, we'll see! Or maybe just leave the expensive ones on there and if it goes it goes, if it doesn't it doesn't and i'll have the casual everyday setting on there too so they can decide between both yanno!?

But about the knives, not sure if it's worth registering for the knife set block AND a whole different everyday steak knife set!? Or just choose one of these sets and leave it at that.. Ahh!

well i registered for a knife block set and someone bought them for us ... i dont think its a big deal.

i think the silverware sounds a little expensive BUT know that people may or may not buy them for you. it really depends on the people coming to your shower. they might split it or someone might buy you one placesetting.

for my everyday set i have 8 place settings

for my formal set i have 16 ... because we have a big family. sooo even if i wanted expensive silverware i couldnt because we needed 16 sets.

i say do what you want but dont be upset if you dont get it all!

I can only tell you what I did. There is no right or wrong answer and don't let anyone make you feel like there is! i will say if you love something and want it, register for it! If people want to buy it they will, if they don't ,they won't. Just make sure you have items in a range of prices for everyone. Also, if it's not on your registry, then you have no chance to recieve it. Also keep in mind most stores have a competeion program, meaning they will give you a discount on any items not purchased off of your registry for a time after your wedding.

I registered for silveware that is $50dollars per 5 piece place setting, which was in the average range. I registered for 20 settings, therefore my silverware total is $1000. Your's is a bargain! I have registered for formal china, I have always wanted it and plan to use it. I registered for 20 place settings, which will not even be enough when I host a holiday. I also registered for a knife block set in addition to the steak knives that go with the silverware. Do what you like!
