I get annoyed when someone claims they have NO $$ but...

are always going away on vacation, go out once a week and spend over $100 (I know b/c when we go out together this is how much we spend and we all drink alot), just bought a brand new car.... This irritates me Or just went shopping and spent exhorbitant amounts of money. Go off and buy LV bags, and unnecessary jewelry that they claim they couldn't afford.
AND I know they are sitting on money

T
Your earlier post got me thinking. I love some of my friends to death but be real. FH and I aren't the richest in the bunch but we never claim we are broke. Because we always manage to save money here and there and enjoy it.

This is the killer: they buy lunch EVERYDAY in the city and still claim they are broke! How about bringing in your lunch like moi and my extra $20 I save goes right to my nails.

lol- well, in all fairness, you can still get your nails done b/c when I dont have money which is a lot
I still do my nails but I charge it

c'mon.. nails are a necessity! hehe

exactly... i eat pb&j everyday, just so i can afford $20 every two weeks on nails.

Thats one reason i don't feel bad about hitting my dad up for money for hte wedding... my stepmom spends a ridiculous amount of money on things... like she'll only buy expensive makeup from Soho, and clothes from expensive stores.... and they go out for dinner ALL the time. she is always shopping!!!

my old roommate is like this...but I really don't blame her...Shes single...enjoying her life...taking advatage of being able to go away on a whim without any responsibilities...why not use evey dime of your money?

but now that she has met someone...she is slowing changing the way she looks at money...

Tracy I am all for spending if we have it and live our life lavishly if our pockets allow it. But at this stage I can't. I don't know when was the last time I bought anything that was just for me as a just b/c gift.

When people go and say: I am sooo broke, we have noooo money and they do anything they want, I get irked.
They aren't making sacrifices. I bring lunch to work everyday b/c I want to get my nails done. FH and I cook dinner 3/4 days a week so we can go out one night on the weekend. The people I am talking about don't do a quarter of what we do to save money to enjoy it later and still claim we are broke!

I am agreeing with tammy on the all fairness..

sometimes we dont know a person's situation. maybe they have been socking money away, maybe they have an IRA that they have been investing into, CD funds with an 8% rollover, maybe they are sacrificing other things because they want nicer things.

do you really know???

Just because they say they are broke, but then spend money like its being printed in the basement is no reason to label, accuse or get annoyed over because in fairness we really dont know how much they make, if they have a savings account, maybe bonds that matured, won a lawsuit, anything. we dont know their financial backgroud and should be fair to them.

I don't disagree with Yabbobay. I look at the meaning of the word broke in money situations as nothing in your pockets or accounts, nada, zilch, zippo.
If you have the money splurge away. But when you start using the word broke left and right, and continue to do your normal activities, you shouldn't be using that word at all. That is what bothers me.

Someone that claims they're broke but spends lots of money....
Chances are they're charging everything under the sun and they ARE broke because there's no way their making what they owe, yet they refuse to adjust their lifestyle.
So they could very well be living it up with the new car, restaurants, vacations and 'stuff' but that doesn't mean they're sitting on money.

I've found that the people with the most extravagant lifestyles are often broke.

Edited to say, I would be annoyed too and I'd proabaly say, 'either stop spending then or stop complaining, because I'm tired of hearing it'

Susans - I think you hit it on the head. I know so many people that go out all the time, take elaborate vacations, dinners out 3-4 x a week, all on credit. Then they are living pay check to pay check b/c they need to make the minimums on the cards and pay the bills. I even know people who have refinanced their homes to pay off the cc bills, then go right back to using them again to maintain the over the top ifestyle that they really can't afford, and get right back in debt so fast. It's really sad! These people will always appear to have money b/c of the spending that they do, but really there is no actual cash in the bank or anywhere else, it's all credit.

My motto is and always will be.
If I can't pay for it in Cash I can't have it...

I think Credit Cards Are evil!

Credit Cards ARE evil- we have some bills hanging over our head and we ARE broke... I only wish I didn't forget the lunch I made for today

Credit cards ARE evil. And I've learned my lesson.
Lucky for me, DH has the same motto as Theresa, so he keeps me responsible

Re: I get annoyed when someone claims they have NO $$ but...

Credit cards are my financial enemy!
I now have an AMEX that I use and abuse. I love it and it keeps me in check!
I also gave my dad my one and only credit card. I am not that strong to have it near me and not touch it. If an emergency arises..Daddy to the rescue!

Susans You said it perfectly!

I definatly learned my lesson from credit cards.

what is worse I used to work for a credit card company.

When we have children I am going to tell them no credit cards because with credit cards comes great responsibility.

Please I want to CRY when I think about it. DH came into our relationship with quite the bit of debt.. the good part is we DO NOT pay interest on it- so we are actually paying off debt- not interest. It just stinks.. all that $ to credit cards could be going into the house fund
