Okay, I have been asking about friend's weddings and learned that a coworker and his wife spent $40K for their 70 guests Manhattan wedding in 2000. Some famous caterer (something Cleaver) and a band from PA that they had come to NYC.
Then of course there is my coworker who paid $60K for her 120 guests wedding. She said she will be paying credit card debt until late 2005 since she charged a lot of the wedding expenses on a Bank One no interest card.
I want to just rent a spot that can hold 250, invite everyone and have BBQ's cater it. I even checked it out when I stopped by for take out tonight. They have dinner packages for $11.99 and less. For that price, or even $25 per person, I could invite all 194 guests and let the singles bring dates - so like 250 guests.
Now, where can I find a place in Brooklyn that is willing to let me bring in BBQ's?

Honey don't give up. I mean, if that's what you really want to do, I'm not going to try to talk you out of it. And also I don't know anyplace in Brooklyn that would do it (though I'm sure there are). Are you having a tough time finding a caterer withing your budget? Have you considered changing your date? You can get the top catering halls for a lot less $$ per head in the winter months. Time and again I was told May and June and September and October are the busiest and most popular months. I know someone who's only paying $50 a head in one of the top houses for an evening (Friday I believe) in February. But still, even if you keep your date you should be able to get something reasonable. Have you tried Jericho Terrace? I'm having mine there and they're very reasonable.

My good girlfriend that lives in Westchester rented a firehouse for 9/15/05 (or 9/17/05?) for $500!!!!
She is the one who won the Sandals honeymoon at the Marriott bridal show a few weeks ago.

Jericho Terrace gave us a great price for Monday 10/10/05 - $55pp ++ with a 150 minimum for the Dome Room - but everything is inside - no outdoor space at all excpet photo ops. I want an outdoor ceremony & cocktail hour (assuming no rain).
FI is not willing to get married in the cold so that cuts out the off season. I tried 2/19/06 but that was when we were planning for a wedding in Mexico.

You might only pay 11.99 for the food... but what about drinks? and plates? and silverware? and table linens? not a necessary but valet parking, servers, bus boys... by the time you are done with all of this you could have gotten married at a really nice hall. Have you considered getting married right away? My fsil just booked the same hall as me and since she booked it with less then a year to go ( sept. 05) they gave her an amazingly cheap price with tuns of extras just b/c they wanted to book the date.

I have heard of that kind of deal. A woman at work got married 2 months ago - having a baby in April so it was urgent. She got a place in Staten Island (where she lives) that is usually booked years in advance. I hear there was a cancellation and she got a GREAT deal.
A friend who hired a caterer (wedding and reception at her house in PA) said she did have to rent glassware, china, tables etc. She paid about $20K but for 200 guests.

What about prospect park- the boathouse i think it is called. ??
Also, there is this cool loft in Williamsburg called the Galapagos Loft Space - I think it was like, $500 per hour to rent this incredible space.
If you want amazing BBQ - check out Blue Smoke, real pit smoked Ribs and Pork - best in NYC (okay, I work for the company - but the press we get says it all!) Sorry, don't mean to assume BBQ's isn't good - just thought I would throw another option out there. Blue Smoke does professional catering for great prices (and I think they will stock you with all the plates and stuff!)
Good Luck!!!

Windows isn't a great buy, JMHO. They wanted $70. for an engagement party. Even the Watermill and East Wind were cheaper.

Keep looking. You can definitely find something for your range at a hall unless BBQ is what you REALLY want to do... ( I don't want to disuade you if that what you want.)
Those prices you gave are outrageous. The first one is in Manhattan and that's why, but the second one, maybe the bride just went all out with the extras?
Take a look at www.weddingfacilitiesandservices.com search under Brooklyn/Queens. There are plenty of places to look at in Brooklyn.

Re: I give up - I am calling BBQ's to cater
Katrina there is lovely VFW hall in Oceanside. It is one affair at a time and they also have a lovely bar where folks can sit and relax if they arrive early. This is no rinky dinky hall. Fh and I almost booked there, but when we went to Verdi's decided we preferred their decor better. But this places has mirrors, chandeliers-it is very lovely. Theirprices include a full cocktail hour, with strawberry and champagne as well as dinner and dessert and centerpieces. Also after then event your guests don't have to leave there is beatiful bar where they can relax after the wedding.
I think they were $50 pp and their gratuity is 15%. If you want their info, let me know.

Oceanside is on the south shore of Nassau... kind of towards the western end of Nassau. And I've been to the VFW before, and it is no ordinary VFW, it is beautiful. I think this is a great option. I went to a Sweet 16 there (years back) and it was very nice.
