OK, so it's official: after 6 years teaching at a high school in brooklyn, I got a job in Long Island! Yay! The pay is more, the neighborhood is way less scary than the one I work at now, the people seem nice and supportive, and it's a tenure-track position so I should have my tenure in 2 years. I signed the paperwork this morning after meeting with the superintendent of the district. I'm so excited!

Aww, thank you! Good luck! I teach Spanish, which is more in demand than other subjects, so I was lucky enough to get a job my first time trying. What do you teach?

Thanks, everybody! I knew last week that they wanted to hire me but was afraid to jinx it, so I kept it to myself until I actually signed the paperwork.
I can't believe I had to meet the superintendent of the district today... I taught in NYC for 6 years and I don't even know my district superintendent's name there!

They really make you jump through hoops in L.I. - in Brooklyn, I was hired after a quick phone conversation and a 10-minute meeting with the Assistant Principal. She didn't even ask for one reference! REALLY different story on Long Island... but hopefully well worth it.
