I had applied to the NYC schools and they just sent me an email today. Tomorrow I have to call them to go over my application and they want me to come in for an interview. I hope that is a good thing. I have never received an email for this. I am just keeping my fingers crossed.

yeah ive been trying for long island for the last 3 years..im convinced that you cant get a job unless u know someone lol..ive had some interviews and demo lessons but there are HUNDREDS of people that apply for each position..im assuming you are going for elementary right?
oh dont be nervous about the commitment letter...i was happy to have it as a backup..in case you dont find something at least you know you are guarenteed a job
and there are tons of jobs in the city people are always leaving!
I just FM you. There are spec. ed. positions open in my district next year. I just don't want to get the bronx or anything like that. I am hoping for brooklyn and queens. The others are too far for me.
What grade do you teach or are certified to teach?
I am certified in Elementary and soon to be certified in special ed

I recommend applying directly to the schools that you are interested in working in. Thats what I did and I got into a good one.

Good luck! It is so hard finding a teaching job! I taught in NY for 2 years, moved to PA, and now have to take ALL their certification tests (5) to teach again!

Apply to schools on your own. Signing a commitment letter limits the schools you can teach in. I teach in NYC and love it!

It really limits the schools. So if I sign it and I look for a school on my own I won't get it because it is limited. I am so sorry I am so confused.

Apply online to OLAS (something like that) that is all the schools through BOCES. A lot of schools require you to apply through that site.

I spent a long time applying all over.... and heard nothing. hHave you gone to the district offices personally and dropped off resumes?

they didnt say that to me...they said i could look on my own and i just had to call them if i got my own city job.. if the city people had to find the job for you its only certain schools.. cause my job wasnt through the recruitment office..i found it myself..but it made it easier when i went on my interview to say that i was already committed to the city (not specific schools- just to the city)
