I had applied to the NYC schools and they just sent me an email today. Tomorrow I have to call them to go over my application and they want me to come in for an interview. I hope that is a good thing. I have never received an email for this. I am just keeping my fingers crossed.

I went for an interview with the recruiting office first too. They came to my school before I graduated and interviewed those in the education program. What they do is if they like you, they give you a commitment letter, which guarentees you a job with the Board of Ed in the coming fall. So if you cant find a school yourself, they will eventually place you. It also looks good when you go on an interview with an individual school that you have a commitment letter. The downside is, that if you dont find your own school, they can place you anywhere. I didnt get an assigned school until the day school started. Luckily I had found my own right before then. Good Luck. If you need any more info, let me know!

Re: I got an interview (I think)..lol
i did the same thing...they do like a mini-interview (nothing to be overly stressed about if its what i had) and then they give you a committment letter basically saying that you have a recruiting person and that if you dont find a job on your own that the city will find one for you..not bad
BUT..i would suggest to try to apply to schools on your own..send in your resume and cover letters to any and all schools you are interested in...the city also has job fairs which i went to but they SUCK..u basically wait on a line to speak with different schools and they interview you on the spot then say next lol....some just take your info, some schedule you for a demo lessons, and i heard some hire on the spot..but its a crazy atmospere and i got nothing out of those
Def send out out your info everywhere and try to do it on your own..cause i heard the commitment letter basically gets you a job at schools where they cant find anyone else to work there (i cant imagine what those are like cause im not in too great of a school and people actually apply there lol) but it is a good backup so def still go to the interview
good luck on your job search!!! i hope you get a great school!!!!

yeah ive been trying for long island for the last 3 years..im convinced that you cant get a job unless u know someone lol..ive had some interviews and demo lessons but there are HUNDREDS of people that apply for each position..im assuming you are going for elementary right?
oh dont be nervous about the commitment letter...i was happy to have it as a backup..in case you dont find something at least you know you are guarenteed a job
and there are tons of jobs in the city people are always leaving!
