Re: i got my dress!!!!

In a garment bag BUT wrap the gown in white sheets so that it stays white (if it is white) and change the sheets every now and then.

I have my dress in the garment bag that RK gave it to me in- it's white plastic, so it isn't see-through. The dress itself is also in another clear plastic garment bag like you get from the dry cleaner and the in the white garment bag. Do you think I should still wrap my dress in a sheet? I haven't heard of that before and I think I'd have a breakdown if it ended up discolored or something because I didn't use a sheet!

My friend stored hers for months this way, with the white sheet....and the sheet would turn and she would keep changing it and it was fine. That said, I had my gown only a few days before the wedding but now, a year later, it's still (bad lana banana) in its garment bag, no sheet around it, and pure white. However, the garment bag has turned a little silvery inside from the beading. I'd do the sheet just to be safe. This reminds me to finally get my gown preserved!

Re: i got my dress!!!!

as long as you keep it out of sunlight (like by a window) and in a dry location, you should have no issues....do check to be sure that it's not straining on the hanger with the length of time between now and your wedding, you'd really hate for it to hang on a hanger and pull/tear ....possibly just periodically check to see if it needs to be shifted around on the hanger....i worked in gown preservation a few years ago. really as long as you keep it covered and in a dry place, it should be fine regardless of what you cover it with...maybe look into a wedding gown sized garment bag as that will be enclosed as opposed to the plastic dry cleaner-like bags or a sheet alone.

important time to remind everyone that basements and attics are NOT appropriate places for your gown EVER. (before or after the wedding) and if you have it boxed, under the bed is a great location.

WHOA you ladies are great with the info!!....they did give me just the white plastic garment bag...what kind of white sheets should i get...

i think i might keep it in my closet....but it can get hot in there...is that ok?

THANKS SO MUCH LADIES!!....this wedding planning is getting fun again (i'm only saying that b/c i feel i'm just spending and giving $$$ away and not seeing anything yet..... )

sheet reccomendation: wash it in something 'free' of dyes/perfumes...why risk it...also, no fabric softener/dryer sheets.
