request to bring a newborn. They are from Saint Louis and is my FH's favorite cousin and she says she doesn't have anyone to watch the baby so she asked if she could bring her and that they would even 'sit at the back of the Church.' I feel so terrible but seriously, there would be so many newborns there if I let one bring theirs. But I still feel terrible. I offered the whole babysitter route (someone on LI weddings even offered) but I don't think she'll take me up on it. Parts of wedding planning stinks

Re: I got my first....
tell her that you need to know asap about if she'll take u up on the whole babysitting thing...
the sooner u know, the sooner u can deal w/ the issue.

She already knows that she can't get a sitter for 12/3?

Be strong. If you have a no kids policy tell her no.

Re: I got my first....
That kinda stinks. Weddings are no place for a newborn IMHO. Is it fair to the baby to have loud music and noise in their little ears? And it's not fair to the couple getting married. If you say yes to one baby, you have to pretty much say yes to them all.

I agree, if you said no kids that means no kids.

Re: I got my first....
Honestly, we had one newborn at ours though we had a no children policy. He didn't make a peep and they sat at the back. I don't have kids, but I would imagine if I was a mother I would not leave my baby with a stranger.
If it means a lot to him that she come, just explain to others that she flew in from St Louis and you had to accomodate her. I think I completely blew the baby issue out of proportion before the wedding. I lost sleep over that one baby, who was so well behaved, and I trusted the mother to rush him outside if he did start crying.
I dont think babies should be at weddings, but for out of town guests where all relatives will be there, who do they leave the baby with?

I'm sorry, but IMO, I think ppl who bring a newborn want to show off the baby. I'd tell her no. If she looked hard enough, she could find a sitter. stick to your guns!

I had someone not come because of her newborn as well . . . It kinda stinks but, you gotta understand cuz we'll probably do the same thing someday if/when we all have newborns!
Honestly though, I think it's rude to ask anyway. I personally wouldn't.

Re: I got my first....
Since they would be flying in, they would have to get a babysitter overnight, which is tough...

Re: I got my first....
I only had one child at my wedding, my niece who was two months old. Honestly a newborn is different than a child. My sister could not be away from the baby because she was breastfeeding and it would have been very difficult for her to pump and then cart the pumped bottles from Maryland, where she lives. This is totally up to you but allowing a WELL BEHAVED newborn is different than a full fledged child. My niece was an angel at my wedding. Barely made a peep.

I had someone do that at my shower and it was sooooooooooooo obvious. She only made herself look stupid, and pretty much NO ONE paid attention to them anyway.

That's a nice thought and all - I just think ya never know with a newborn. Babies cry sometimes, it's just a fact. I don't think that means they're misbehaving, but it's just reality.

I totally agree. One of my BM is form oot (she lives in Charlotte as do I). Her lil baby will be 5 months old at my wedding and I told her by all means to bring the baby if she needs to. I do not plan to explain my decision to any of my other guests as it is none of thier business

Re: I got my first....
I'm sorry this is a hard one for me. I'm a mother myself so I know what its like to have to find someone to watch your child. I for one have not had that problem very often. but I did have a problem where as we didn't attend the wedding b/c of the kids, but after, for the reception we had one of our teenage cousins who didn't attend the reception to watch them. It's a very hard situation, b/c I wouldn't want my child w/ just anyone epescially a newborn. I hope it works out

Sad but true. I had my bridesmaid tell me in March 2004 that if we decided to get married on July 4. 2005, she didn't know if she could get a babysitter for her kids... mind you they were not infants. 10 years old and 7... This was a year and a half in advance!!! Her excuse was it was a holiday. But at that point the prices of weddings was killing me and having it on a holiday was our best option... until we found a better one...

Re: I got my first....
I totally feel your pain! FH and I had the EXACT same request made to us by FH's favorite cousin in CA. the baby will be 4 months old by our wedding.
We put our foot down (and it caused a TON of drama) but I'm very sorry, if you allow 1 you have to allow all.
the outcome: FH's cousin is coming to the wedding but his wife isn't.
even though I offered my bridal suite for her baby and a sitter! you can't please everyone.

I totally agree! We had 3 babies at our wedding and if you did not see them, you would not have known that they were there. All babies do when they are that little is sleep anyway. The parents sat in the back just in case. I would much rather put up with a few infants and have my friends and family with us on our wedding day than not there because they could not leave their newborn home. (some newborns will not take a bottle so they cannot be left home)
