I got - new updated on page 2

Fired today from my job. The HR rep called me in and said 'about 5 people have come to me and told me you were looking for a job' I did not deny it becasue I am looking for a new job. She then gave me the option of giving my 2 weeks notice or leaving next Friday and getting 2 weeks severance. What timing, we just got married and we just put a bid in today on a house. I guess it may be a blessing in disguise becasue those two weeks that I am getting severance for, I can really dedicate that time to interviewing and finding a job.....to be continued........

OMG, That is terrible! Do you have a union?? Can they make you leave because you are considering leaving? That doesnt seem right!

I know, what a bunch of $cumbags, who would do that? I know right now 3 or 4 people that are also looking for a job. I guess I should go and rat them out too....what a bunch of freakin tattletails

What a bunch of back stabbers? They can't fire you! What if you are looking for a part time job? There are no evidence that it would have interfered with you work.

I thought that it seemed fishy but I think this is an 'at will' state where they can fire you without due cause. I don't know.

I can't believe people told that you were looking for a new job....o I did not know you can get fired for that.

Thanks girls, you made me feel a little better. I am still so mad about this, I am not even really upset, I am PISSED. and today is DH birthday so I need to get over it so we can have a good night. Image me buying a house with no job....oy vey

That is really bizarre.... but maybe since they are giving you severance, you can file for unemployment!!

I can but unemployment pales in comparison to my salary...I guess some $$ is better than no $$. I also may do temp work if I cannot find a perm job in the next 3 weeks. It pays 25-30 bucks an hour which is not bad. I will keep you all updated. Thanks girls

I suppose you were an at will employee..but grounds for dismissal may not be for what you were fired for.

Do you have an employee manual?

You could sue for wrongful termination. I don't know if looking for a job is grounds.

Maybe an HR person could help with this.

It also may be a blessing in disguise. I was w/o a job when we closed on our house.
